Vintage Season?
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 5 Replies
March is here and the snow keeps on falling. Unusual but true. We've had over a meter of snow here in Chamonix in the last few days.....and its March!! Unbelievable. Its just easing off now, so lets hope the sun comes out in the next few days. Especially now the half term rush is over it should make for some classic conditions .... even saw some comments on a Cham chat board saying that 05-06 is shaping up to be a vintage season ... whats the low down from you people in other resorts? Vintage season?

Hi Joe
Powder hound is absolutely right. Much of Chamonix's reputation comes from the Grands Montets in Argentiere, which is pretty steep and has some pretty extreme off piste thats especially good after a fall of fresh snow. But that's not the whole story. The valley offers variety, there's simply a huge choice, which means it’s equally a good place for intermediates (and even beginners) as it is for experts. Our website has a fairly comprehensive description of all the ski areas in the valley. http://www.chaletinthemountains.com/ski%20areas.htm

With regard to accommodation, we have a couple of chalets that we rent out on a self catered basis. Each accommodates 8 people and are fully equipped with dvd, hifi, satellite tv (british channels), microwaves, dishwashers and all the kitchen paraphernalia that you're likely to need!! There's even a jacuzzi bath in one of them!! Have a look on our website for full details.

Usually we rent the chalets out on a weekly basis with Saturday check in/out, but we have lots of availability in March so we are currently offering flexible breaks, at Euro200 (about £140) per night for the whole chalet for your private use on an exclusive basis (no sharing!!). This is for a minimum of 3 nights.

Alternatively we have a promotion for £280 per person which includes accommodation, daily lessons, ski passes and transport to/from Geneva airport.

I hope some of this is of interest to you, in case it is, please email or call us with your preferred dates, any additional requirements for lessons, transport etc that you might have and we'll work something out for you.

I hope we can welcome you as a client of Chalet in the Mountains!

Regards
Helen

In France, the xmas just past was really really good, with lots of snow, even at lower levels (800/1000m above sea level plus). But at the other end of the scale, there have been years where temperatures were higher and the rain/snow limit has been as high 1500m at xmas time. So choose the higher ski areas to reduce the risks!

We are in the Chamonix Valley, where the main ski areas are high (most of the skiing is at 1800m-3300m), so skiing at xmas has been generally safe with enough snow. Its true Chamonix has a reputation as an extreme skiing destination and, to a large extent, that's deserved. But that's not the whole story. The valley offers variety, there's simply a huge choice, which means it’s equally a good place for groups and families of mixed ages/levels (check out Les Houches or Le Tour for example).

In case you’re interested, we put quite a bit of info on the ski areas (with piste maps) on our website http://www.chaletinthemountains.com/ski%20areas.htm

Hello everyone.
We have some great last minute self-catering accommodation in the Chamonix Valley, which is still available for xmas and new year.

Chalet Armel
A fabulous, traditional, newly renovated chalet, accommodating 6 people. The chalet is located in the hamlet of Vaudagne, which is just outside Les Houches in the Chamonix Valley. Les Houches ski area is one of the 5 main ski areas of the Chamonix Valley and is about 5 mins from the chalet. Aside from being a stunning chalet, probably its best feature is the position, with wonderful 360degree mountain views, including the mont blanc!

La Veille Maison apartments
Studio apartments, each sleeping either 2 or 4 people. Located right in the centre of Les Houches in one of the oldest buildings in the village, close to the bars, café’s, restaurants and the all important ski slopes. The apartments are decorated in a very traditional French style, in keeping with the building.

If you have read any of Gaviteski's recent posts, you'll see we have bucket loads of snow in the region already, so it’s looking good for xmas and new year. In case your interested to rent either of the above properties, then please email Helen on stay@chaletinthemountains.com or call on 00 33 619 124584 for full details and prices.

We look forward to hearing from you.
Helen
