Snow Situation in Sauze
Started by User in Italy, 8 Replies
according to this site the ski area is closed and only has 30cm, according to the Ski Club there are 9 out of 22 lifts open with 80cm lower and 120cm on the upper slopes. Now not wanting to diss this site but it would appear that something is not quite right :!: Sauze is a ski club rep resort and as such the snow depths and piste conditions are updated twice daily during the week and once a day at the weekends. They are reporting light snowfall today and good conditions for skiers and boarders. I wouldn't panic just yet anyways as a lot can change between now and when you leave, at the moment I would be more concerned about the impending strikes by BAA staff that may cause flight delays although after re-reading your post you may well avoid it as you're flting from Dublin

Our household had a Toyota Prius on extended test this year. The much heralded, environmentally friendly electric motor was over ridden by the petrol engine if we had the aircon switched on when starting up. The petrol engine also started up if doing more than walking pace. The batteries contained with in the car are very environmentally unfriendly, road handling was plain awful...I could go on, you get the idea

My 4x4 does more mpg than say either a Chrysler Voyager or Renault Espace...go figure

I was being somewhat tongue in cheek as I believe the Prius is simply a car you buy to say you own one rather than a practical alternative to diesel or petrol.

I think there is also a concern that the amounts of fresh water currently locked in the ice caps could have a large effect on the salinty of the oceans should they melt. The 'ligher' fresh water pouring in from the melting ice caps is less likely to sink as fast as the cold salt water causing a slowing effect of the ocean currents.

Edited: Just re-read Jans thread - I think he was refering to this.

For the Hollywood version of this watch " The Day after Tomorrow"

America saves the world - again :P

Shouldn't you be out on the mountian before global warming does for the ski industry :?:

I agree that previous cooling down / warming up periods may not be down to the same cause, however, there is eveidence out there that would suggest that the politicians are getting it DRASTICALLY wrong, however as we all know politicians are never wrong but for those who prefer to get a balanced view read these

It would seem that whislt the sea-ice has been receding in the Arctic since 1978, it has been quietly growing in the Southern Ocean by 8% over the same period. Also Eats Antactica has been getting colder, all we need now is for some mountains to appear and we'll have a new skiing destination to visit :!:

I think the general consensus appears to be that this forum has no place for rants without substantial facts to support them. As Dean quite rightly points out, this planet has had more than one ice age / warming up period.

Maybe it was all that driving around in so called "gas guzzling 4x4" that brought on an ice age and killed the dinosaurs then :?:
