Some folks don't want to wear/wash clothes whilst away. I know personally I don't want to wear the same top every evening therefore I tend to take more clothing than most, but there again having seen some people on skiing holidays wear the same clothes all week....ewww, that's just manky!
I find that you lose a kilo or two on the bag itself these days which doesn't help! |

I've three options (possibly four) when it comes to boots...
1) carry them on as hand luggage....doesn't leave much room for any duty free etc 2) put them in main suitcase / bag....my boots weigh about 5.5kg (big feet) so there's a weight issue there 3) my ski bag has two built in boot pockets top and bottom...again weight is the issue as the bag and skis on their own weigh almost 12kgs 4) put them in the hold in the boot bag...means I've invariably got to negotiate a boot bag, ski bag, rucksac and suitcase/bag at the other end...not to mention however many bags the OH has decided upon :) Solution? I tend to put the boots in with the skis and pray the nice young lady on the check in desk is in a good mood :) I could just take less on holiday... |

I've never had anyone ask to look in my ski bag at check in, so as far as I'm concerned, as long as the ski bag weighs no more than 15kg where is the issue? Of course I wouldn't be advertising the fact that I'm planning on doing them out of £35 :)

If the insurance will only cover Mrs H then absolutely you should go, i'm sure she'll understand....in fact come to think of it, you should go regardless, there's only a limited number of weeks we in this country get to ski :)
p.s. fingers crossed her toe heals in time (see what I did there....toe...heals :) ) I'll get my coat..... |

yep, have the cable version, it's a deterrent to the casual thief or muppett who picks up the wrong skis! At the end of the day whatever you design it's got to be light enough and compact enough to fit into a jacket pocket, otherwise it's too much of a faff having to wear a rucksac to carry it. Good luck with your project.

My advice would be don't buy a double bag, they're very heavy and IMO you're better off with one each, pack your ski kit around the bindings / tips etc. I have a double ski bag that is wheeled, padded and reinforced at the tips and tails and a lot of airlines are putting a 12kg weight limit on ski kit so a couple of times my ski bag has been overweight, fortunately the friends we travel with have always been under so as a group we've been under :)
