No stereotyping from you then Ross! Twenty two runs today, Ross, so using your logic, I'm about sixteen years old! |

It is about half an hours drive, driving over the hill to Hopfgarten.
It is possible to get there via Woergl, but this might take an hour longer. |

I have used them for three consecutive years, including last winter. Paid only in airmiles, not a bean in cash. On the Airmiles website, airmile costs are given for each car as cash only, cash & airmiles, airmiles only. Airmiles cost for a VW Fox was about 2500 airmiles, think it is about 3000 now. Three free cars, no money. |

This is so much bad luck, just when you were taking such a positive view. There may not be too many skiers who would be in a position to offer advice, but I am sure that all of us feel for you.
My ski buddy Mel, has over the past 8 years, undergone radiotherapy. Throughout all of this, he remained positive, sometimes arranging our ski trips around his treatment! This year, he is undergoing chemo, and has had to cancel his winter. But he still is positive. And I guess, that is the message. You don't know if skiing will be on for the future. But assume that it will be. So, read next years ski brochures. Read, as I still do, ski technique books. Pop into Ellis Brighams at the quays, and check out the gear. The most important thing is to get well. I hope things go well, really well. |

Wanderer,
I love skiing in the rain. The slopes are empty. No lift queues. No queues for lunch. The skiing is like fresh snow, mmm it is better to have fresh wax. Given that I choose to ski in a lower alpine resort, I take comfort and strength from the benefits that rain brings. The subterrain temp has been sub zero for several weeks. The base is stable. The piste machines will do their work. Then the base will freeze. This will leave a base of ice. Gosh, I have used the word, don't tell my wife! Then it will snow, day after day. Yum yum. |

Saas Fee seems to close down before other locations, and I wonder if it is perhaps connected with wind funnelling.
Also, perhaps condider the direction of lifts combined with prevailing winds. I have certainly seen weather "pour" through a col above Saas Fee, and my experience was that runs were closed at times when you would not consider the weather to be severe enough, were you to be at a different resort. |
