Hi Barb&Sven,
Maybe think about booking yourself a couple of private lessons whilst you are away to work on your technique - I can say hand on heart that it will be money well spent (or at least it was for me). Failing that, as everyone else has said, work on finishing your turns, ideally on gentle terrain. When it's not too steep, you will be happier letting your skis point down the fall line for longer and once you have convinced yourself that your skis will turn you if you use them correctly, the fear will subside and you can concentrate on improving your technique on the steeper runs. Also, maybe try heading slightly back up the hill as you finish each turn as this will check your speed and get you in a better position to start the next turn. Hope this is some help - and somebody please correct me if I've said anything wrong as I'm only a relative novice myself... ) Lynn |

I've finally decided to have a go at putting some photos up, so, here goes...
Assuming it has worked, this is the view from the bottom of the Sportinia lift |

Hope the operation goes well and best wishes for a speedy recovery.
I was chatting to someone on holiday that also had a heart problem. Apart from skiing, his main hobby was caving (he was trying to convince me of its appeal, with zero success!) Sadly, when his condition came to light he had to make the decision to tone down his caving trips (as he pointed out, you can't get a helicopter in a cave if something goes wrong.) Instead of being downbeat though, he looked at other outdoor pursuits, invested in a full suspension mountain bike and now spends weekends riding round the New Forest instead. He was a lot fitter than me, despite being more than double my age...... I'm sure with the right care your OH will be back on the slopes in no time at all. Good luck! :D |

I've also heard good things about Muerren - recommended to me by someone I met on holiday |

There certainly seem to be some very good deals about at the moment.
Annoyingly, I've probably lost out on the holiday I priced to Valmenier, as my husband's, boss' wife is due to give birth any time from now and until she does, my OH can not get the holidays signed off (even though we were planning to go at the end of March! Still, hopefully we'll be able to get something last minute.
Given the current state of things, any company that manages to stay in business needs all the support they can get. Yes, it would be better if everyone offered flights from all over the country, but c'est la vie... |

It seemed pretty good to me too, and the ski area looks excellent for intermediates. Don't know if I can resist... ) |
