Collett's Mountain Holidays, can't recommend them highly enough. They have accommodation in Arabba, Corvara and Pedraces and if you can get flights to Venice or Treviso transfer is included (or can also transfer from Innsbruck for a fee). Can book chalet board or self catering in all villages. We have been using them for years and going again in January. It's a beautiful area, enjoy!

Thanks SwingBeep, that's really helpful (and interesting).
Going to go with the 'as they come' option and take it from there when I see how they behave. I'll report back mid January. :D |

Myself and my husband have recently bought ourselves some new skis so our old ones are surplus to requirements.
So, for sale are: 1 pair of Solomon Fever 152 cm skis with Salomon 710 Ti bindings. Specs: 112-64-94, turn radius 11.7 m, combined weight of both skis and bindings 5 kg. £50 + £15 delivery (if required). 1 pair of Salomon Aero GT 162 cm skis with Salomon Z10 bindings. Specs: 117-67-99, turn radius of 12.9 m, combined weight of both skis and bindings 6 kg. £60 + £15 delivery (if required). We are in North East England (for collections). Both pairs were bought in 2008. The top sheets are generally in good condition (Fevers better than Aeros) but as have been used (9 weeks) there are some scuffs/scratches to the tops (though no signs of delamination etc.) and also on the bindings of the Aeros. The bases are OK but do have a number of scratches. We've had similar ones sorted previously during a service but the skis haven't been serviced since last used. Would be ideal for someone looking for a cheap first pair of skis to improve on. Please PM me if interested or skis are available on ebay (for photos etc.) |

Next year's holiday is finally booked, 166 sleeps and counting 'till Arabba. :D
16 day's skiing and a logistical nightmare to organise but hopefully worth the effort. May also get a sneaky weekend in November if I can arrange it. Planning a work trip to Japan with a boss who is also desperate to ski so keeping our fingers crossed. Where's good to ski near Tokyo? Also 2 sets of new skis are in the post and I'm like a child at Christmas. My credit card however is hiding to prevent any more ski related purchases  |

My husband has used one (or occasionally 2) of the supports you have ordered for the past few years for both skiing and walking (which surprisingly seems to cause him more trouble). He's found them to be really good and comfortable (wears over his thermals for skiing).
No idea what he actually did to his knee but woke up one morning with a bit of pain and next day he could hardly walk. Specialist said general wear and tear as no specific damage was found. Physio exercises have helped a lot so may be worth a try? I'm sure someone more qualified can suggest a couple as not exactly sure what he does and for what purpose. |

Thanks Trencher.
No idea what angle my current ones are as they were set up for me when I picked them up from the shop. I wasn't asked (but being a beginner at the time wouldn't have had a clue anyway, still don't....) Old skis have Salomon Z10 Ti s on them and my boots are Nordica SM 80s with 305 mm sole length. Beyond that........., anyone's guess....... Any way to find out without taking them to bits? I guess I need to see a qualified technician/boot fitter to assess which angle is most suitable for me now? I've decided to go with the Look bindings for myself which are 5 +/- degrees (which I'm reliably informed is standard ish)? If things aren't set up to the optimum angle I'm sure I can get them adjusted (and now also know who to talk to if needed). Also decided to go with Griffons for the Stocklis as managed to get them as part of a really good deal. Up to my husband if he wants to have them mounted or buy something else...... Thanks for your advice, much appreciated. |

Think myself and OH have finally made a decision on new skis for this season. Blizzard black pearls for me and Stockli Y85 for him (skied the 77s in March and now doesn't want anything else, bloomin' expensive tastes!!)
Anyway, neither come with bindings included though can buy as part of a package if we want to (at additional cost). I can get the Black Pearls supplied with Look PX 12s for an extra £130. A quick google gives mixed reviews, some saying brilliant others that they are a nightmare to get in and out of. Any thoughts? The Marker Squire was also suggested by my local ski shop as a lightweight option and can pick them up for <£100. Anyone use these? Some of the reviews suggest they aren't that robust others say fine? Or other options? I'm max 11 st and a decent intermediate skier. The Stocklis can be supplied (imported) with Salomon KZ12 Ti s for an extra £186. He skied on these in March and they were fine but never really having thought about bindings before don't know if we could get away with spending a bit less? If so, what would be a good option? He is ~14 st, decent intermediate, skis are 85 mm wide. One problem may be getting the rail part of these mounted as my local ski shop aren't sure they have the correct jig (?) for Stockli skis? Could probably get this done in resort but would rather turn up ready to go if possible. Would ideally prefer something as light as possible. Could he get away with Marker Squires too? Or Griffins? Weight and DIN range seem fine for both from specs but I'm out of my depth here. Thanks in advance. :D |

Great report and glad you all had such a good week. :D
Seriously considering for next year as looks like it would suit us perfectly. |
