Hi all,

Me and my OH are going on our first ski trip at the end of Jan. Ive been saying we need to sort our insurance out but because my OH works for the halifax we get free travel insurance which includes WINTER SPORTS cover. I know insurance has been done to death on this site but i wanted to know do any other J2skiers have the above account and have you used this insurance?

Id like to know if we take out Carte neige insurance with our passes will this along with our WINTER SPORTS cover be sufficent?

Im currently looking for the small print soi can post as i know you will ask to see this to decipher whats what - Bandit....

Thanks
 ha what a dumb ass i am....

Sorry i didnt see the date, thought it was a new post... oh well....
Im no doctor but i have certainly had my fair share of sports injuries... So what i advise is keep moving on it. the worst thing you can do is sit and do nothing, this is when it becomes stiff and doesnt heel properly. Try and continue to do very moderate light exercise, cycling on a exercise bike but on the easiest setting dont push it. simple walks on flat routes. Ensure you have heat and cold packs to hand alternating 5 min sessions with each for about 40 mins each night, this helps the blood circulation which speeds up the healing process.

Clearly if doing any of the above is too painful then seek immediate professional advice, you say your a student and cant afford it but if you can try pay for private until the nhs freebie kicks in then this could and probably will make such a difference.
HI Jim and welcome to j2ski

Like other have said you should pay a visit to chamonix, if only for a few days im sure it will be 1 of the more memorable visits of your trip.

If i was in your position id at least try and get something booked for the first week and then you can decide where to go from there and book any accomodation from a local internet place in your chosen resort. If your on a budget you might find it hard to book single rooms without incuring any supplement charges. If every room your booking is incuring a supplement charge this will eat into your balance pretty quickly.

Id also look into as many last min catered chalet deals as you can, this could help you decide where to go and stay, if your already in the area and dont require a flight you should pick up some very good deals, and you will also meet new people who you might be able to ski/board with.

If you decide to visit val thorens there will be 12 of us there from the 29th jan for 1 week. Your welcome to meet up with us.

Do let us know how your getting on as id like to hear more about your trip.

all the best and stay safe. :-)

Think a lot of it is black... way out of my league :o(

yes it is, it shows a tunnel on other videos but there is also another way in to the start, as shown on this clip.

Just been looking at videos on youtube and came across this beauty... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xp5Z8ZtPsSU&feature=related

Just wondered if any J2skiers had skied this run before. I went to Val/tignes last yr and can honestly say id never heard of it.

Looks a fun run to ski if a little sketchy in places..

Thanks

Hi I used them last yr to book my OH's equipment which was booked with the local intersport shop. I wouldn't worry to much the site worked fine for us and also All the other people holding the same prints of paper in the shop at the same time as us. If I was you I'd contact them directly and see what they say. Check your bank acc or credit card to see if your deposit Was taken. If all this fails then hopefully the card you paid on is visa in which case you should be covered by the cards insurance and you can get your money back. I will be using them again this yr, hope this restores you with some confidence. Let us know the outcome.

I know insurance has been covered alot here before so i thought id share this with you all. Hopefully this could be a good policy thats actually worth buying.

BASI Launch Ski Insurance

The Association of British Ski Instructors (BASI) has launched a customized travel and winter sports insurance scheme for all skiers and snowboarders, as part of a close collaboration with sports insurance specialist Dogtag.

To create the product, a small team of experienced and well-travelled BASI instructors got together with travel insurance experts. As would be expected, the resulting policy and cover options are tailored for snowsports enthusiasts. The scheme offers three levels of cover depending on proposed activities and risk. Policies can be on either a single trip or annual multi-trip basis.

Aside from the usual elements, the scheme includes cover for piste closure, piste rescue, off-piste search and rescue, equipment cover up to £2000 and cover for personal liability.
