Mayrhofen for Christmas - Risky or not??
Started by Howeller in Austria, 1 Reply, discussing Mayrhofen and Obergurgl-Hochgu...
im going on the 20th dec for the xmas week and ill be back there 10th jan, we do the jan trip every yr same week.... im not worried. there was tons of snow last yr and didn't have any issues skiing anywhere. also as a reassurance there is the tux which is skiable all yr round and conditions there right now are excellent. that's only a short bus ride away... like I say worst case. its great area to ski as well.

Thanks guys I think that sums up what I already thought. I'm an advanced skier I've skied for 28yrs now it was a trip more for my son really who's now 5 and I'm teaching him to ski between ski academy. I will look at andora but I know that also low altitude so booking in advance will be nervous unless the snow is great. Might stick to why I know but go for a shorter trip... thanks

Hi everyone we recent bought a house this yr so that's putting stops financially on us going skiing this yr. I'm desperately trying to get the family away and so looking for cheap deals so we can still get our fix

I've never been to Bulgaria but I know it's 1 of the cheaper places to ski. Please can anyone who's been pls advise me on what's it's like?
Is it cheap to eat and drink out as we may go self catering or is it best to stick to half board?
Is it safe on a evening walking around the town of your resort?
Which is the best Resort, for both skiing and in an evening and is there plenty to look at in a night after skiing is done. We generally like a wonder round the ships etc and get a beer or 3.
Any reccomendations for hotels?

Sorry for the long post but I've no idea what it's like.

Thanks
Christian

Ha why is it nonesense? It hasn't snowed for over a month and unless anything changes soon it's not likely to snow anytime soon. So to say it's nonesense is rubbish isn't
It... if you don't like the thread then don't read it or comment simple

Yes you are all right.... I totally get 3 weeks is a long time for it all to change. I'm also hoping the long range people are looking at will ring true. I guess it's only like the last 2 yrs. I remember it being like this when we went to ADH Feb 2015 and it snowed so hard they were dumping it off the mountain. Here is to hope! I've never skied la plagne before so I'm unsure how it holds up in situations like these but the guys are brilliant at snow making so all isn't lost....

So well over 12 months ago we booked our annual group trip to La Plagne and this year we go on the 15th Jan and I have to admit I'm getting worried now. Looking at the cams it looks pretty poor, yes I've read the j2ski latest trip but still I'm concerned... would love to hear from anyone out there now that can put my mind at rest? Forecasters saying it's gonna stay dry and unseasonably warm through till 4th Jan, I get it can change over night and I'm really hoping so. Just wishing this high pressure will lift or move....

All I want for Xmas is snow. Oh and some new goggles ⛷☃️

jocrad74 wrote:Have you thought about public transport - altibus, transisere and the like?

We won flights to Geneva and wanted to join friends in LDA. We caught a bus from Geneva to Grenoble, then one to LDA that went via Bourg. Okay, it was a bit longer than a private transfer but we saw some of the countryside and it soon passed.

Hi yes it's more hassle then I'm willing to take tbh. We will all have our travel bags as well as a bike bag. These are not easy to lug around at the best of times so I'd rather pay the extra and get a direct transfer. Will see plenty of the country side cycling.
