EmmaEvs wrote:Crispyapplepie I may be completely out of order here so my apologies in advance, but my first thought is 'please be careful'. There have been too many accidents already this season. As a group would you consider hiring an instructor for half a day to take you down there? Depending how many of you there are the cost could be spread nicely. At the very least it could save you the hassle of finding yourself stuck away from the exit/s and having to hike. Sorry for being boring and paranoid.

Not at all, I wouldnt dream of going into there without either knowing its ok to do so, or having the right gear/guide. There has been a crazy amount of accidents already this yr, OR is it just been reported on more? If the weather paterns continue i can only imagine that there will be alot more as well before the season is out.

I know my limits and certainly no freeride powder junkie. not at the min anyway :P

Hi im not sure if you have bought 1 or not yet but i bought my OH's from Go Outdoors. They had a delivery of Sinner helmets in and i thought they were cheap at £35. My OH really liked it, they had 2 different styles and a few colours. Great fit, good price. Overall v happy..

Happy hunting.

Andy there is no offical route over the back, i think its an off piste bowl which just runs around the mountain valley down towards the bottom of VT im sure it meets up with the annoying flat blue run out of VT. This i cant be sure though which is why i wanted to know as i wouldnt make a trip in there if there isnt an obvious way out...

But like i say an instructor took a group down there so there has to be a route.
Waterproofing Products

My North face gortex jacket was recently WETTING OUT and i was advised to give the jacket a wash with NO SOAP, just water. Then do another wash using just the Nikwax. Then if i wanted to i could give it a wash with a waterproofer.

I have yet to do this so cannot comment on the result but i have heard great things for this stuff. I wasnt aware Nikwax made different types of cleaner so ill be looking into those for my ski gear.

I also have no association with Nikwax...

As you know yourself then skiing indoor is completely different to skiing on a mountain. Id class my ability as advanced intermediate and i have roughly 10 weeks experience. If you have only been once id say your probably edging more towards the beginner level. However i have never seen you ski and im no pro so pls dont take this advice to heart.

If i was you id have at AM lessons and then see how you go from there. Or Like Dave Mac says spk to ski school and ask them for the bbest advice.

Whatever you choose, have a ball and i hope the little 1 enjoys it as much as you guys do, after all that could be the start to many great hols.

Hayleysean you didnt mention your current ability. If your a beginer then yes id say you need lessons however if your advanced or above then you make the judgement.

Its always worth having lessons even if its only the AM lessons. this way you have the rest of the day to do what you like.

Hi all,

Im returning to VT - 3 valleys on the 29th of Jan and im wanting to know if any of you have been upto the top of La Masse and then over the otherside into the powder bowl?

When i was there last yr i never went over as i was on my own but this yr there will be a group of us and i was wondering if we were to ski it where does it finish? What sort of run is it, i know its unpisted and i dont think its patrolled but could be wrong as i saw an instructor take a group over there last yr.

Anyway, if you have ski'd it, pls can you let me know what to expect.

Thanks
