We're winging it this summer, book the time off work and wait until as late as possible. Hopefully we'll be doing something in october for my 40th but don't know what yet. possibly learning to dive, a safari, a city break or maybe (just maybe) skiing

We've done the same, booked the time off work, booked kennels for mr dog and on the hunt for somewhere cheap in the sun nearer the time.

Apart from that, lots of camping, first one being a beer festival in the New Forest in a couple of weeks, Easter on Exmoor, Whitsun in Dorset, plus numerous others no doubt. I'd love a long weekend in the mountains for some summer skiing but have now used up all my holiday. Think there's enough there to keep me entertained until the snow starts to fall again.

How did you find it? I think you were there the same week I was in Serre Che, which is only a matter of miles away. Did you do MontGenevre or manage to ski Sauze and Sestriere as well?
Claviere seems to be quite a good place to base yourself in terms of whats around locally.
The snow in Serre Che and MontG was excellent when we were there.

Have to say it was one of the best skiing holidays I've had - Claviere is ideal to base yourself in for the Milky Way, not the liveliest of resorts but met some good people and entertained ourselves. Saying that we didn't make it over to Sauze but we did have a couple of days in Montgenevre. The far side of the MW is too far to do on skis in a day, having a car would have been ideal for venturing further into the Italian MW. Most people we spoke to managed Sestiere but no further.

The snow was AMAZING, absolutely perfect every day, we had 2 days of snow and the rest of the week were blue sky days. I even treated myself to some new skis in resort and gave them a good road test and was skiing like Chemmy Alcot by the end of the week :D

How was SC?

amanda n wrote:yurt??? whats that

Amanda, hello....
A yurt is a tent type home that people in say, Mongolia, live in.
They are like a mobile home...they move on and take them down and then set them up where they settle.

I know this coz my brother went on one of those charity cycle rides and was invited to eat in one.

There is also a company in the Alps that does Yurt evenings..and that might be what Pablo is referring to!!!!

There's a campsite in dorset that has yurts. In fact I think they are quite a common occurence in various places in the UK these days.

We fly at 3.15 on Sunday afternoon, I still don't expect to sleep tomorrow night
Thanks boys and girls (even for the random comments), lots of great advice to keep me going. I love researching stuff on the internet so that gives me something to do when we get back off our hols next week.

One other question, I never seem to be able to find any accommodation that doesn't stick to the 7 day Sat-Sat rule, but then I might be looking in the wrong places, ie, never looked at the tourist info websites for accommodation. We want to go for 10 days.

Thanks again, am off on my hols on Sunday (much excitement!) :D
