What is the excess? I keep my quotes low with a £200 excess. Given 40 years+ ski insurance with only one closed piste claim, I guess I am £8000 ahead. To be honest, since all my spensive gear, laptop, paintings, Ipod, camera, is in my hand luggage, the contents of my hold rucsac mught be worth £35.67, accounting for inflation.

Ye gods, all you so called experienced skiers! Don't look at the day time temperatures! It is the night time temperatures that count! Good quality snow will last for months, given cold night temperatures and good piste management. In a good resort, night temperatures last from 4.00pm til 9.00am in mid season, assuming a good north facing resort.
Cold night temperatures = recrystallization of the existing snow + new artificial snow + enhanced compaction from good piste management.
Get out on the first gondola for the best conditions.

We really like the Skiwelt, and will manage another visit this season. The fantastic mountain hut above Going, that Frostbite mentions is the BrennerAlm, and is a great modern piece of alpine architecture, in traditional tyrol style. Good service and food, wiith a delightful little mountain chapel alongside.

One of the benefits of Ellmau is it's relative proximity to the slopes, a rarity in the Skiwelt.

Our family has been hosting a young Colorado lady, and I part financed her recent visit to Niederau. Generous, you ask? Well, that is in my nature.

Oh, did I mention her mother has a house in Vail? Or that her grandmother's house is located in Aspen? Must have slipped my mind!

On a more serious note, I would recommended Breckenridge. Better to travel the I-70 on a weekday. The Breckenridge pass covers five big resorts, but if you only have a week, you could just buy the local pass.
You can get direct flights to Denver.

That's it, I'm off to Hervis! As for Torres, you should know that I was born a red. You are right, I cannot come to terms with this error of fashion.

I'm not going to Niederau, well, not for 3 weeks anyway, and then only for another 2/3 weeks. I just had a week and a half there, so that pretty well lets me off the hook.
