The two areas are in different Gemeindants, and the link road is two narrow to have a regular service on. There is no rivalry, as they have differing offers. The long term discussions relate to link ups with schiwelt/wildschonau/alpbachtal. but as youcan appreciate, this is a complicated process. The free bus scheme started in a small way, and is now being pushed by the two hotels. Others will pick this up, and then market forces are likely to encourage further development.

It is lovely, easy moving skiing, as good as it gets. Had several good runs down with old Austrian ski instructor mates, then caught up with my frau, and attempted to repair my marriage!
This afternoon, had a great off piste run from Niederau to Oberau, down the Katzenberg. Most people in the group had limited off piste experience, but the Katz is a great run, and we had a lot of fun.
There are a number of international teams training in the village, and I was chatting to some of the guys from the Polish team. I have really got to find the guy who did the speed gun. He egged from the top of the T bar, and must have been hitting 70kph before he entered the speed gun!
A Burns supper at chez nous tonight, must go and practice my "Ode to a mouse"!

Can "N" afford closed runs due to international teams training there ?

Closed runs? Everyone uses the race arena, open to all, this is a working class resort!

Alternatives to Niederau

Hi Pete, I have been several times to Niederau for half of that price, and this year at the Skiwelt, paid a third of that.
There is some confusion about the term "snowsure". Almost all the Alps are snowsure wit the assistance of snow machines. This even includes places like St Anton.
Oh, at at New Year, you will be unable to avoid lift queues in any ski European ski resort. It is a European holiday. Resorts
Snow in March in Niederau?

Hi Alice, I have been going to Niederau for over 40 years, and have rarely experienced bad March skiing. There is the odd person on J2ski who associates low with no snow, and take no account of north facing, snow stream, multiple tree effects, the value of good visability.

We have cetainly booked for a couple of weeks in early March, to add to the 200+ weeks that I have skied there. I have skied in many world resorts, and with some USA, and a couple of Euro exceptions, Niederau has always been good for March. On many occasions, I have left Niederau at the season end, with the mountain totally white.
How do you handle skiing on ICE?

I don't like ice. I like hard packed snow. There is a significant difference. I don't come across much ice, and if I do, I do what Andy says and plan my route carefully, trying to sweep round at the edges where there maybe some loose snow. Remembering to put pressure on the fronts of the skis is important, but if you find yourself slipping, don't panic and keep going. You might not look great, but it realy doesn't matter. Its all about survival and confidence. Like Andy said, its in the head.
Knowing what the pistes are likely to be like at the time of day is also of huge importance. That comes with experience to be fair.

You being the person that advised being agressive on ice.
