Took us nearly 5 hours from Toulouse to Arinsal 3 years ago.Like you say stop at a poor cafe and all I can say thank god I'm a bloke, the queue to the ladies was rediculous. The transfer is one of the reasons why we be unlikely to go back to Andorra. Had a good time once we were there I might add!

Just got back from Soll, loved the place. Tony_H do not even consider going to the Schladming area then! (Which I would also recommend) as the Skiwelt area is very similar.Even for good skiers there's plenty to ski over a week. As for location from gondolla to town, get over it, it was a 10 minute walk at most. Icey slopes!! Then I must have missed them all. Went to Mayrhofen last Xmas had a great time but queues just to get up the mountain and back down as well as a couple of pinch points on the Penken where we had to queue for 20 minutes plus.I know you say if your up the mountain by 8.15 you will miss them, but we are also on holiday!!
We were out of the hotel by 9am and actually skiing every day a little after 9.30. Would I go back to Mayrhofen - No Back to Soll definately!! P.S. If you are nervous of sheer heights then the Penken gondolla on a clear day is a tester as it goes between 2 peaks, and it is high!!! Think you will agree with that Tony!! |

Got back Soll yesterday. Loads of snow when we were there and it was tipping down when we left. Very impressed with the Skiwelt area. Our group has used Schladming for the past 5 years and I can compliment Soll in saying the skiing was on a par with there.Where Soll scored very highly was in the Apres scene even for a group of 50+ year olds.
We stayed in the Postwirt which was superb. There were 2 bars in the hotel. Quiet one opposite reception or 20 metres further on which had live music 3 nights a week. Small but great atmosphere. We used the Salven Stadl as our maine base camp bar, great live music. Everyone kept on forgetting its name so it was called "The Cross Roads Bar"! Used the Whiskey Mule a few times, slightly more expensive and younger crowd. They take the Mick by only charging entry 4 Euros on Fridays as they know everyone will be out later as most are going home Saturday. Saw a 2 piece band I think called 'Fog on the Tyne' 3 times, very very good. Geordie Lad and a French girl. They are doing the rounds in other Austrian resorts, so well worth a see if they are where you are staying. Excellent time had by all. Would we go back- to damn right we would. Dont get put off with the bus thing to the gondolaa. Sunday morning with everyome and his dog trying to get on it in the morning was busy, but everydayafter that no waiting at all. Walk up to the gondola 10 minutes but you will be working up a seat. We walked down everyday to the Salven Stadl in a leasurely stroll. |

Just got back from Soll and we were generally paying 3 Euros for a large beer, 2 Euros for a Jaegermaister both in the town or on the Mountain. Bowl of goulashe and a roll 4 Euros. Hope that helps.

check the attached link. The Planai is the main Mountain from Schladming itself. Excellent skiing. Haiser Kaibling was always our favourite. |
