Off to Ellmau on Saturday and I was wanting to know if anyone had recently returned from the Skiwelt area, who could let me know if the prices they are charging are reasonable. (Beer, hot chocolate etc.) Last year in France they seemed to take the p*** a little, I was hoping for better from the Austrians.

Perhaps the Austrians have been watching and learning! Linky to story about an injured German skier presented with a portable Chip & Pin machine by the ambulance crew....

Remember to take a credit card with a decent limit!

I expect to pay something like 3.50 for a large beer, 2/2.50 for a coffee and hot chocolate, and around 7/8 for spag bol.
Thats not the same in St Anton mind you.
Having said that, I found Serre Che and ADH cheaper than most of French ski areas, although I did pay 4 euros for hot chocolate one morning, and 13 euros for the best pizza I have ever had!

Not much different to this country. If you need an ambulance as a result of an RTA you get a bill as they assume you will be claiming this back off insurance.
The last time I had an ambulance after an RTA the bill was on my doorstep the following morning. To get it out that quick they must have had it in the post whilst I was being treated. Should have just given me the bill when I left......would have saved the cost of a stamp

If I'm injured and in an ambulance, then it might be more appropriate to deal with my insurer and not hassle me for money.

I have experience of the French way of doing it, and it's pretty unpleasant. The only difference for me, was that they wanted cash, only cash, and I was repeatedly harrassed by the "ambulance" driver until I gave my bank card and PIN number to my OH for him to withdraw money to get this vulture out of my sight.

Some European countries (and resorts) have more tact.

Just got back from Soll and we were generally paying 3 Euros for a large beer, 2 Euros for a Jaegermaister both in the town or on the Mountain. Bowl of goulashe and a roll 4 Euros. Hope that helps.
