You have got to be joking Finn! I really hate it when I can't see, and I'm afraid I'm going to ski over the edge of a precipice.

As long as I can see, I'm not afraid of anything - long drops under the chairlift, moguls, ice, steep drops etc. And I can never remember which marks mean what on which side of the piste marking poles. I think if I was ever on my own in conditions when I couldn't see anything I'd stay where I was and wait to be rescued (or the weather to clear), rather than risk getting lost.

Ally

I didn't realize the marks on the marking poles had any significance. I will take note next time out, thanks for the that.

I love Andorra & would give it five stars if it wasnt for the transfer from Toulouse.
Its not shorted from Barcelona I am afraid, although more direct roads.
Yes, it was really quiet, they made an effort to open Pas especially for us and there were a few locals, the odd tourist, and a couple of ski clubs out that was all. Arcalis was even better, we had the pistes virtually to ourselves, it was amazing. And fast.

Can I enquire if it was a good deal?

I am looking for a late deal early jan.We have only skied 4 times.Went to
Niederau last season and loved it,but pretty much skied the same runs over and over. The deals coming up are Soll,Alpbach,Mayrhofen,Kaprun,Maria Alm.Apres ski does not have to be to mad.normally shattered after long day skiing.Any advice would be great as i dont have a clue.

Cheers

We had a great week in Mayrhofen & stayed in the Neuhaus Hotel which was really good accommodation right next to the skibus stop. Worth looking out for this hotel as it often is advertised within the late deals sections. Only down side to Mayrhofen can be the queue at the bottom Gondola Station in the morning, that said January is usually pretty quite.
Can recommend Soll ski area but have never stayed in accommodation there.
Alpbach is a great little resort with around 40kms of piste, very similar to Niederau in a lot of ways & is really picturesque. Hope this helps.

Is that the Hochberg run in the background, looks in good condition. Nice picture, any more?

For comparison, a 7 day Three Valley pass in France, covering 600 Km of linked pistes, costs 267 euros this season, and you can base yourself in any of the 3 Valley resorts to access the whole area on skis.

It's just a pity you can't use the Austrian area one without a car, because otherwise it sounds quite good value.

Ally

Ally, that really is good value especially when you consider that the Three Valleys area is fully interlinked. Have not skied the Three Valleys yet, a possibility for next years trip! Nowt like a bit of forward planning.

The Kitzbuheler Alpen region is slowly but surely being interlinked, connections between Kitzbuhel & the Skiwelt via Westendorf now exist but you have to give serious consideration to your route planning & leave plenty of time to get back. Improvements & investment is ongoing & I believe that plans to link the Wildschonau valley with Alpbachtal have been mooted. A car is still the best option though.

Apologies for quoting myself but didn't know where else to post this.

I was 400 metres short of 10,000 metres of vertical today according to Skiline,..... 400 poxy metres!!! I would have dragged myself up that last 400m by my teeth in the dark at minus 50°C had I known. I did push up my average downhill distance to 38km though (with a 52km day), which places me just below target for 2,400 for the season, assuming I can get the time, money or whatever to complete.

That's been a good shift Tino, wait until the daylight hours extend the ski lift opening times to 16:30 and you will easily pass your target. Good effort.
