I like the sound of the free skier & snowboarder magazine Tony was talking about, will keep an eye out for that one & Fall Line magazine as recommended by Bandit.
If I was a reporter looking for skiing related material to fill the pages of a magazine J2ski would be my first port of call. Finn |

Kokoda by Paul Ham about the battle for the Kokoda trail in Papua between the Australian & Japanese forces during WW2. Exceptional book.

Are you are prepared to book late & see where the best snow is, if so you may find that conditions in some of the lower ski stations suit your needs perfectly. Austrian resorts such as St Johan, Alpbach, Niederau may be just the ticket especially since both of you are novices. A big ski area usually means expensive ski pass, when first starting off a smaller ski area is just fine. The three resorts mentioned will tick all of your boxes plus they all have excellent ski schools. Price wise I think your budget should just about cover it. Hope this helps. Finn |

What is the best snowsports publication, DM ski & snowboard mag was pretty good for a ski fix but haven't bought it for quite sometime. Anyone read any others :?:

Don't have any experience of the Garmin product but do know that a number of resorts offer a service called skiline where your skiing distance & altitude are tracked through the electronic registration of your lift pass. At the end of your skiing day you retrieve the data by going on line & entering the serial number from the lift pass, this is offered as a free service throughout the Kitzbuler Alpen region. So best to check the web site of the resort you are planning to visit to see if they too are offering such a service, might save you purchasing the Garmin.
Hope this is relevant. Finn |

Freebies are best! Got a pair of Bolle goggles free when I subscribed to DM ski mag several years ago. Use them all the time as I wear a helmet & as stated in previous threads sunnies & helmet dont really go.
