Car journey from the UK is ~£500 return (depends how far east or south you go and from how far north you're driving).

Hi Volf,

usually I would agree with this quote (including the crossing), but this year we are going to skip France almost completely on our drive to Austria. I am expecting this to drop the price by £100+ as we will not be paying any tolls on the French roads.

With hindsight, we could have saved this last year as well when we went to Switzerland, and equally when we have driven to Livigno in years gone past.

So with three in the car, we are looking at about £130 each in total to get there and back, without any restrictions on what gear we take with us :)
:) Thanks AlistairS.

The Christmas Market trip also coincides with the Cross Country Sprint event which is held down the side of the river. http://www.worldcup-duesseldorf.de/en.html (not updated for this year yet)

I have thought about going to that for a few years, but finally managed to talk some friends into going mainly for the markets, and a good beer feuled weekend :)

:D Looks pretty awesome to me, and definitely making me wish the summer was passing quicker than it is )
In defence of Crystal following the post from Tony_H (admittedly just his personal take on them), I have used Crystal for at least one booking in each of the previous five years. I have never had a problem with them.

Admittedly, I have used hotels and not chalets, but the food has always been of a decent standard and plentiful, and the reps have always been friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about anything we have needed to ask. As we drive, I especially like the way that the resort managers have called me personally just prior to travel to ensure that I was happy with my route and parking plans for the resort, and to give me up to date info on the road conditions for the local roads and passes.

I also book direct with agencies in resort and make my own travel arrangements, but given the savings against the extra hassle, it is often much better to go with someone like Crystal, especially when booking for a group with varied requirements. They have not let me down ..... yet :)

And no I don't work for them or have any family connection :D but any discount would be appreciated if they happen to read this )
:D How about a nice spot of mud wrestling?

Advice for resort in Europe please

As long as you miss half term Bandit, it's not too bad.

My last three Feb hols have all been early Feb (1st or 2nd week) to Wengen, Soldeu and Val D'Isere, and they have all come in at less than £850 including lift pass and half board. Except Val, which was accommodation and travel only, but that was just £350, so plenty left for food and lift pass. My first booking this year is for Kitzbuhel 1st week of Feb and that is £775 inc lift pass, half board, free bar for beer and wine till 10pm (I've checked the small print and cannot see any fair use clauses like the dodgy ISP's insist on inserting :)) and an option to have a packed lunch to take out each day.

Pooface, tbh your choice of resort will really come down to you. You need to decide exactly what you want and be a bit more specific, then see what people suggest.

Never been to sauze yet, so cannot really comment on it, but personally I really like Val D'Isere and Tignes. Tignes Val Claret would probably be the best option from what you have said so far. I'm sure others would disagree with me, but lets see what is suggested.

Welcome to the forum :)
