The link has not actually posted to the forum correctly. If you look, the final has not included itself in the link.

I will try it with alternate text for you

Your first post, thank you.

Is it easy to get back to Soldeu after a night out in El Tarter?

 Where was that?

I won't mention the bar, but it was in Livigno. We have been going to Livigno for several years, and it was where my friends children learnt to Ski, so the bar in question was well known by us.

The idiots concerned reminded me of the bad old days in the med, with drunken Brits getting us a bad name. I doubt if between them (there were over a dozen) they did more than one full days Skiing

Still, it won't put me off the town, we will still go back there occasionally :D

Thanks for all your comments.

I appreciate that bars can change from season to season, and in fact can change from week to week depending on which group of Skiers decide to make it there home for the week.

I have had the unfortunate experience in the past of using a bar for many years, only to find a bunch of really drunken, drug using, very loud, filthy mouthed louts had decided it was going to be their bar for the week we were there last year :(

Needless to say, we moved on, but as the bar was outside our apartment, we still had to put up with the almost nightly fights and pools of vomit on the way home.

:D Anyway, I shall look out for the ones you have mentioned in Soldeu, and will report back on our return.
World championships in ski resorts

Morning James,

I was in Val D'Isere two seasons ago when the mens circus hit town. This was the season before Val hosted the World Championships and was being hailed as somewhat of a dummy run.

As far as the pistes were concerned, I thought they were very similar to usual in terms of use. Obviously some runs were closed (notably La Face) and some lifts for competition use, but it did not impact our skiing fun.

The town itself was considerably busier, and I would feel sorry for anyone who was transferring in on the day as traffic to the resort was very heavy, but some of that may have been due to President Sarkozy and his security entourage. The bars were still charging their usual exorbitant prices, and the better restaurants did need to be booked in advance.

Generally, I thought there was really good atmosphere around, although it was not quite what I would have expected. I would not be put off going to a resort simply because it is hosting an event. However, it would always be worth checking just how much impact there will be on the pistes and for how long, just in case it is going to mess up your Skiing.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Queen of the Snowplough, I guess what you are saying is we should try and have a drink in them all

Is the gondola bar you mention in the town or up the top? I was led to believe that the gondola came down to a hotel.

Hi All,

OK, I have just booked my first trip to the mountains for the coming season, and there will be 8 of us heading off to the Sport Hotel in Soldeu early in Feb :)

This trip will be the family type, with wives (one non Skiing, who happened to be the one who picked Andorra) and two grown up children - over 18. Can anyone recommend any Bars and Restaurants we can try while down there.

Many thanks.
