Thanks Jim.
I arrive sometime around Sunday lunchtime and hope to be on the slopes soon after! Staying at the Bel-Air Eden; good price, obviously not too grand but close to the railway station, which is important for arrival and departure on Friday afternoon. Also happy to take a booking for five nights rather than a weekend to weekend deal. Definitely intend to head for the World Cup training/racing before I go home. Also have to go up the Schilthorn as I have nephew who is made on all things 007 - and I need to take a picture or two for him. And just to get me more in the mood - it's snowing outside in the 'high alps' where I live! |

Finally got round to taking the plunge - and booked a five night trip (with six days ski-ing) to Grindelwald for next Sunday.
Any tips on what's good/not so good would be appreciated! |

Being a little sad (in the modern idiomatic use of the word) I have a framed piste maps of the L'Espace Killy and Valetellina (half-inched from a hotel I think years ago), a lovely photo of Saas Fee taken from Saas Grund and a gorgeous picture of the Elk range above Fernie - all on kitchen walls. Oh yes, and a ski canada calendar for 2009.

Lovely pics Ise - getting very itchy for some ski action now. (So much so that when the xmas decorations go in the cupboard later today, I'm going to get my ski holdall out and pack it!)
New year's resolution: get to Switzerland as soon as possible! |

Done Engelberg for both three and four day breaks.
Swiss flight to Zurich (free ski carriage and choice of flights makes it so much better than EasyRyan!), train from the airport, change at Lucerne, hotel right next to railway station. In the throes of booking something similar for Grindelwald leaving on Jan 11th and returning after ski-ing on Jan 16. Most of the swiss resorts have very good online booking systems for their hotels - and they don't seem tied in to the Sat- Sat regimes of other countries. |

And Murray Head had a hit record with 'One Night in Bangkok' !!!!!!! :) |

Not the most convenient or extensive resort, but snowsure with some great cruising. Might be a bit repetitive for a week-long trip, but I've done several four-day jaunts and it's just about perfect for that - given the ease of access by air, road and rail from Zurich. The apres is not very extensive either but the Yucatan - reputed to sell more beer than any other bar in Switzerland - is some kind of jumping joint! I also liked the Dream Bar at the Hotel Central near the railway station. It's very pleasant in a what the Swiss think a British pub should be like kind of way. |

Been there twice for RAF championships over the years; yes it is ugly, but the newer developments are much better looking.
It does have, however, I think the finest and most neglected ski mountain in the Three Valleys: La Masse. No crowds, steep and deep if you want it, huge area, sense of remoteness and far from the madding crowd. Lovely..... |
