And so it snows

Looking at my fave resorts in Switzerland via myswitzerland.com

Hundreds of web cams from the Alps - snowing everywhere it seems.

And Engelberg's lifts are closed due to the storm! Bring it on!

Ah the Goatstall and the RAF championships - very happy, hazy memories! :)

Serious party town with loads of bars in the streets playing Europop/DJ Otzi (help!) and oompah from about 3pm each day.

Loads of intermediate skiing accessible from both sidesof the valley from Hinterglemm (which is much handier than Saalbach).

I have a horrible feeling that Fortress has been closed down!

Certainly, that was what I was told when last out there.

Going to do some googling to check!
Interesting discussion but one from which we can draw no firm conclusions.

'Better' snow in Canada?

In early March 2006, I was water-ski-ing in Fernie on slush as trail after trail closed as the fortnight wore on.

In La Plagne late March last year, we were ski-ing in deep powder on piste!

That's just the luck of the draw, not any definitive conclusion and only proves that you can't make sweeping generalisations.

For the record I like the customer service and standard of hotels etc in N America and Canada. But with some significant exceptions, the ski-ing is underdeveloped compared with Europe (Fernie being a classic example of a mountain with so much untapped potential hampered by slow, archaic lifts.)

My only conclusion is I like Europe for good reasons and Canada for different good reasons!
Piste Ski £250-£400

If it's a mainly piste ski you're after (and at a compettive price), you can't go much wrong with something from the Rossignol Zenith series. My Z9s are fantastic (and versatile) but I hear very good things about the Z7, and the Z10s sound pretty cool - but at a much greater price.
Gas under $3/gallon :) :) :)

I've no idea what you would put in your automobiles, but I put petrol in my motor car!

I wish 'gas' would come down in price as it would be cheaper to cook., heat my house, hot water etc......

Oh, you mean petroleum spirit!
