Dotted line on piste maps - off piste?
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 16 Replies
So ....
I am confusing itineries with piste naturelle?

Quite a difference from an insurance perspective.

Am I right in thinking that in France itineries are rarely shown on maps but piste naturelle's are dotted whereas in Switzerland itineries are often shown as dotted lines?

Austria?
Italy?

Wish there was a convention to help us all.
I wonder who may be open to a little judicious bribery......

It is my understanding that these dotted line runs are marked and patrolled pistes that just don't get any attention from piste machines and so remain au natural.

They aren't technically "off-piste"

Any experts out there to corroborate or not this?
I hate you all .......

I really wish I was in the position of being able to join you in Tignes, but not this time.

I do however look forward to a free and frank discussion of who people really are while you are away and when you get back with photo and video evidence.

Green SKi Runs

I think more info is needed before diving into specifics.

What age are the children?
Vital !! Real tiddlies won't be getting very far and main criteria may be proximity to ski school from accomodation(carrying kit etc.). Also age is so important in choice of runs particulary what lift serves the run.

A lovely bubble to the top of a nice wide beginers area is a different kettle of fish to a drag lift to an easy road back down.
Verdons at Courchevel 1850 springs to mind here. Lovely ride up and then all afternoon back down on a run that goes from 300/400yds wide to maybe 50/60 at it's narrowest.

First week kids may not be getting much further than the nursery slopes anyway - so age dependent here.
What a 5yo and a 10yo will do in their first week can be completely different.

So .....
Clariana - info?
Age of children and experience of adults please.
Hint on your ability to dish out the dosh may help too

My sons first @ 6yo had him in ski school and then a couple of times with me. I was happy to go on expeditions because I could pick him up and ski him down when needed (over the shoulder stuff!!) and get him past any tricky bits. I have, though, seen all too many tiddlies in a real pickle because parents have over estimated their ability to get down something.
