Resorts with lots of bubbles
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 9 Replies
I have no idea what/where/when/with who my skiing forays will be this season - yet.

I know I'm going, may get in two you never know my luck.
The issue lies around other people at the moment.

May sneak a week in with my sister - if the surgeon says she is fit to ski!

OH and I may go - if she can make up her mind.
Which is where I need your help and suggestions.

Sking with OH is a lovely holoiday - it is a holiday where I ski rather than a ski holiday as I have to embrace the vagaries of a non skiing wife.
Which means a March trip for better chance of some warmth and sunshine.
Also the complexities of what works for us with regards to resort and accomodation.

Bubbles are the key!

OH loves getting up the mountains, loves the scenary etc and particularly loves having a drink in the sunshine while I ski.
Courchevel works brilliantly in this regard - bubbles everywhere.
Serre Chevalier, last season, was pretty good. Not great up the mountain but down in the valley OH loved it. Her other mountain enjoyment is walking. Not mega up in the snow trecking but strolling around on track and paths. SC was great for this in March as the south facing side of the valley (no skiing) was snow free and delightful apparently. Courchevel, and other higher resorts aren't great for walking, still too much snow cover.

So...
The big question.
Where has good uplift for the non-skier and has the potential for walking and other things down in the valley.

I have started to have a look round with ideas, like staying down in Le Chable and skiing Verbier for example.

All ideas gratefully received.

I feel for you Gareth,

If it were me I would start with flight. Best value route.
Then a resort as close as possible to airport.
Then start looking for self catering accomodation that is owner rented.

Owners abroad and people like this are your friend here.
Reason being that renting suitable sized accomodation is probably going to be the easiest part. OK - have to pay for a week but so what?

For example - Dublin - Geneva - Portes du Soleille (anywhere) for example.

Loads of resorts close to Geneva - http://www.j2ski.com/ski_resorts/Airports/Geneva.html for the list. Bound to be some good value accomodation in one of these.

Not so many resorts close to Lyon or Milan. Don't know the Austrian end of things very well so won't comment.

Proximity to Airport means either public transport or inexpensive mini bus type transfer.
Laax - info please on this resort
