I'm sure this covred elsewhere and I did a search but perhaps wasn't elegant enough as I had toomany unrelated answers. We have always stayed in resort and skied door to door. Thinking of going again next year but need to keep the costs down and thought about staying lower and travelling up each day. For instance, staying in Bourg and getting the funicular up. Can anyone suggest some good places like Bourg where the transfer is easy and you have reasonably quick (I know it is asking a lot) access to a good range of slopes (don't mind which major European destination; France, Italy, Switzerland; Austria etc.). Cheers, Mark

Is the saving really worth the travel though? Can you save that much?
A 30 min gondola from Brides would do my head in daily.
Skied: Arinsal, La Plagne, Alpe D'huez, Flaine, Les Arcs, Morzine, Les Gets, Avoriaz, Sauze, Courchevel, Val Thorens

It did that for me. Worse, the Gondola support pole drops though a hole in the roof, along with avalanches of snow!

Oh, and it is a rare event to be able to ski down to Brides, hence you have to be back at the lift before 4.00pm for the lift down.

The hire shop is at the bottom of the Brides Gondola. It is a skiset centre.

Hi,

The trip from Bourg-St-Maurice up to the lifts at Les Arcs 1600 takes around 7 minutes, at the top the ski lifts are about a 50 yard walk from there.

Staying down in BsM you can make good savings on apartment costs and also eatng out is somewhat cheaper etc, it's just a case of hunting around for where to stay, I suppose it mainly depends on what kind of break you are looking for.

Also Tignes Le Brevieres is ok if alittle cold and bleak in early winter.
