I just watched this programme on Five On Demand.. I skied past that exact runway in January this year - Remember looking at it and thinking.. what the... Needless to say I had to stop and take a picture!

Skiing: the art of catching cold and going broke while rapidly heading nowhere at great personal risk.

To be honest i cant quite understand how this wasn't the most extreme airport, it had nothing on the others, absolute madness. I take my hat off to all the pilots who can land a plane on that thing !

The one is Alpe d'Huez gets my vote. And lets be fair, landing at Innsbruck takes some beating in a 757

You're quite right Tony, our appartment in Alpe D'Huez looked directly onto the runway and I managed to catch a video of a plane taking off;



A chairlift actually runs underneath the runway through a little tunnel (at the end of the runway) - known as the scare chair, simply for its ridiculous height that you don't know about until it's too late and you're sitting on the chair looking down.. Rather fun really

Innsbruck is exciting to land in. There is an issue that if required, some airlines can do a turn within the valley walls, and some cannot. One of those that can not do a valley turn is a major TO. The same TO has landing equipment restrictions, so when visibility is impaired........

I must say i did enjoy the Innsbruck take of and landing last year :thumbup:
