White wine......now theres a dreadful drink if ever there was one.

Snapzz........?

No comment as yet from snapzzz so I'll cover this one :D

Best white wine I've enjoyed in recent times was a Sauvignon Blanc from the Dog Point Vineyard in New Zealand. Not cheap at circa £14 but very very nice. Tony - treat yourself to a bottle and come back and tell us how you got on....

No thanks. Complete and utter waste of time. I have tried all different types of whites: Pinot, Chenin, hell even some chavvy Chardonnay! I don't even like Chablis. White wine just isn't for me, irrespective of the colour  Give me the pink stuff anyday.

To be honest i drink any wine but mainly white. Why? Because i like a refreshing gulp and i just can't do that with a room temp red.
I agree that there are some truly shocking ones though and i especially steer clear of the chardonnays. in my local they are selling a house white and it truly tastes like p*** but then so does the house red.
For me there is much snobbery around wine, perhaps we need to take a trip to C1850 and discuss it with some of the toffs there?
Just like skiing i much prefer doing it than talking about it.
Skied: Arinsal, La Plagne, Alpe D'huez, Flaine, Les Arcs, Morzine, Les Gets, Avoriaz, Sauze, Courchevel, Val Thorens

You're bob on there mate. A lot of snobbery involved, but just as much ignorance alongside it too.

I try to find a well priced bottle which I particularly like, maybe try a few variations when offers are on, never pay more than £6 in the supermarkets, except for Chateauneuf du Pape which no one can argue against.

Know what you mean about wanting a refreshing drink, reds dont do that. Thats why I get on the rose.

I've found there are certain grapes I like when it comes to reds, and certain brands to buy and to avoid. I dont like Australian reds, too full bodied and syrupy mainly. Some of the Hardys are ok. I do like Chilean for Merlot and Argentinian Malbec. But love Grenache and Syrah particularly. You can get a very good Cotes du Rhone Villages for about £6 when on half price offer in Tescos and thats made mainly from those 2 grapes.

But white.....not for me. I dont like anything that makes me wince and all I can taste is acid.

Beaches are for chilling. You have the action in the winter, the summer is the chilled vibe. Sun, sea, sand, g&t, nice bottle of rose, sun setting over the sea, dinner on the front, the sound of the waves in the distance.....

A chance to read a book - I never do that any other time, listen to some new tunes on the iPod, get away from having to get up at any particular time, snoozing and stretching....

December to April I go mad for skiing. From then on its beaches or cities for me.
Absolutely spot on for me as well. Plus excellent swimming in blue clear sea, snorkelling. Hiring a small speedboat pootling around the coast stopping at deserted coves. Catching and eating fresh sea urchins. Absolute bliss.

Boring? You mean relaxing.

I live half a mile from nice beaches but hardly ever use them except brisk winter walks. But Greek Island beaches, no thats something else. Having said that we still go up into the mountains to take in the views, bit of walking, find a village taverna. But is really is the ultimate chill out. Although not for me the beaches with long rows of sunloungers, we opt for the deserted coves even if it means a long hike through the woods to get to them.

The top was sealed with a bit of foil - no cork!

I suspect it was not prime stuff.

I remember drinking that wine during my first winter in Chamonix. Although it was a pricey 10 francs a bottle in the late 80s. And fags were the the same price too. I needed it to be earning 30 quid a week.

Pinot grigio is my choice for refreshing wine. Found a good one in a box, so it's always in the fridge and ready to go.
because I'm so inclined .....

I will be trying to find some nice wine in Tenerife next week ( I lost the argument with Mrs P about spring skiing ) I also saved about £1200 too.

Torres wines are pretty good Spanish wines.
