Incidentally there are no long distance buses but the ski area webiste probably tells you about local buses from Kufstein. Local buses are often free if you are carrying skis and / or a lift pass.

Need to amend a couple of Innsbruckers offering.
You don't go to Munich Hauptbagnhof. The quickest route takes you to Munich East (Munchen Ost) There is a rail station in Munich Airport. I have never booked a ticket on line.

When you arrive and collect your luggage, follow the train signs, (S-bahn) Just in front of the train area. there is a ticket office. Get a ticket for the next train to Worgl, and you ought to be able to book right through to Soell.

You can check your info on: http://www.oebb.at/en/index.jsp

This is the english version, and it is the Austrian website. Type in Munich Flughaven Terminal ~ Worgl. Don't worry about umlauts or "e". Trains are roughly hourly, but not exactly. The journey time is about 2 hrs to 2 1/2 hrs, depending if you are lucky with an EC train. On the slower train, you may need to change a couple of times.

When you book your ticket, you will be given a printed itinery. This tells you what time your train arrives and which platform. It then details the platform you need to go to, and the time of your next departure.

In all cases there will be a change at Munich Ost.

When you are checking this, add an hour to your arrival time, to give you a comfortable ideaof a train departure.

Then go back to the start and plug in Munich Flughaven Terminal to Soll. This will tell you the full travel time, including the bus to Soll, bus 4060.

I did a quick check, getting off the train at Kufstein, but this is a longer journey, which would indicate that there may not be a direct transfer to Soll.

A word of warning. When you are planning your return journey, try not to go on the quick train, the EC. When going from Germany to Italy, the trains are always on time. Returning from Italy, the trains are often up to an hour late.

Dave Mac,
I just tried (out of curiosity) putting in Munich airport and Worgl and 1 p.m. on that website you said, and it very cleverly changed it to Munchen Flughafen and Worms Hbf, but it said the journey took 4.5 hours and needed two changes

Where did I go wrong?

Okay, I had another go at it.

The raileurope.co.uk website doesn't give the trains from Munich airport to the centre, but it gives the direct fast trains from Munich centre to Worgl, and they go every 2 hours and take one hour and 13 minutes.

Dave Mac's website gives the trains from the airport to the centre (Munchen Hbf) and they seem to go about every 10 minutes and take 45 minutes.

So, I suppose the time taken to get to Worgl would depend on whether one could catch one of the fast direct trains.

And then Dave's site gives the time of the buses from Worgl to Soll, but there don't seem to be very many of them.

e.g.
Train leaves Munchen Hbf at 13-31, arrives Worgl at 14-44.
Next bus leaves Worgl at 16-10, arrives Soll at 16-39.

It doesn't take very long on the bus, so I suppose Worgl must be quite close to Soll, so you could get a taxi rather than wait ages for a bus.

I also had a look at trains from Munchen Ost (which isn't even on the raileurope website) and there are trains about every hour from there to Worgl, varying between no changes and 2 changes, and taking one hour to one hour and 37 minutes. And there are trains every 20 minutes or so from Munich airport to Munchen Ost, taking about 30 minutes.

So, it is a case of swings and roundabouts which route is quickest. I think it will depend on what time your plane lands as to which route will be the best - via Munchen Hbf or Munchen Ost.

Worgl to Niederau, 7 km, Postbus 3.5 Eu, Taxi 15 Eu
Worgl to Soll, 12 km, bus about 5 Eu, Taxi estimate 25~28 Eu

You could get the train to Worgl, check the bus timetable, and ask a taxi driver for a cost.

Hi AllyG, The reason Deutsche Bahn website gave Worms not Wörgl is that you missed out the umlaut. They are fussy about that. Woergl or Wörgl works. It is ronounced something like Wurgl.

Munich East sounds a good idea, I never tried it. But the main station is is large and can be confusing (it confused me last time I was there...)

Ally, Inns, Dave,

Thanks so much for your help and direction......so heres the plan....

My flight gets in at 18:55, so I'm looking at the 20:04 train, 1 change (I'm presuming at Munchen Ost).

From Worgl I'm gonna get a taxi to Soll, it will be too late in the night to be waiting around depending on buses.

My return on the Saturday should be smoother, looks like there are alot more trains available in the afternoon.

Thanks again folks.
