Where there is a fixed grip chair system, operating at a busy time, there is a temptation for the liftman to bothe speed, ever so slightly....

For those of us with knee problems, the way to avoid a "hit", is to wait until the chair has arrived, then shuffle forward half a step, letting your "friends" remove the chair inertia.

All my mates are right onto this, and if we are on together, the result looks like a mexican dance.

I was quite surprised in Europe they don't seem to swing the chair a little to make it easier to sit down, they just let it take you out whereas in Canada there is always a lifty making sure it doesn't hit you on the way through.

Most places in the US as well. It's normally part of the lifties job. It's always a shock when the chair doesn't get bumped (as they call swinging the chair here).

Best way to stop the hit, is to hold poles in one hand and reach around to catch the chair seat with the other, just befor it hits your legs.

They will if you're a 5 year old girl, mostly grown ups manage to get on and off the chair unaided :D

I was there in January and thought the lift system was a bit antiquated..lots of old 2 seat chairs, and drag lifts, which seem to have disappeared in a lot of other resorts..even the locals were complaining at the lack of investment

 It is good to know the lifty is hanging about to help. Surely it would be far more enjoyable to be out chatting with folk and being happy than just sitting in the wee office doing nothing.

Mostly the ones I see are busy reading What Tractor or similar :D There is only one fella I see regularly attending loading.

from experience that's also a great way to break your wrist and / or thumb
I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!
