Also - do watch out as BA has some very stringent 'if you're not through security by X minutes before your flight you ain't gettin' on' policies. OH who has more air miles than Santa got caught out on a hop to Scotland.

Quite right too. Planes should not be kept waiting by people who cant get there on time.

Tony H: It's 40 minutes. One might expect to be able to traverse an airport from security to a gate in 40 minutes. BA doesn't feel the same way. I felt that it might be helpful for others to know.

But as well know, all planes push back SPOT ON their departure slot from Heathrow, right? Even when every man woman and bag is on board?
Yeah, I knew that.

Well thanks for the info and I guess you were being helpful but it is my responsibility to allow enough time to board on time allowing for any traffic, security or custom delays, I have waited on a plane for a couple who was late and the reception they got from the other passengers and not me I might add was very embarrassing hissing and booing but in a way fully deserved.
I don't think I should expect a plane to wait for me if I am late because who's fault is it ? Mine. :)

personally, I think having to be through security 40 mins beforehand is a bit ridiculous.

All the decent shops and eateries are on the other side tho. For me 40 mins will not be nearly enough 8)

I should be heading through T5 in April, we shall see :D

My son is going to Cyprus on an RAF cadet camp from T5 in April.
Notes advise him to carry his boots in his hand luggage due to their weight...
Having followed all the postings re ski boot carriage in hand luggage I think I'll be checking this is ok...but who with?
I guess for starters is BAA website?
