you can fly to lyon then take the tgv to modane and then a bus for the last 24ks. We rent a car for a day and leave it in modane and same on return. (Avis only)

Further to the recomendation for Snowcoach check out the web site. http://www.snowcoach.co.uk/page.php?id=259&pid=59&mpg=pricesoffers
I can highly recomend the coach its easy and hassel free (assuming you live in the south) but they have flight options with pick up from airport as well.
I have been using them for over 20 years especially good value now the euro is so strong as all your food and wine is included.
Looks expensive at the moment but if your willing to take a chance and leave it you may get a better deal.
They just offered me a week at val cenis in late Jan for £379 plus free ski and boot hire and BOGOF lift pass.

Why dont you want to drive your very unlikely to come across any snow on the roads especially in April.

I have been to Val Cenis on a couple of occasions and there is off piste via the back of the Lake Area and down to the new linked resort of Termignon. Looking to go at the end of January with some mates.
By coincidence, I have been speaking to a guy from MGS Ski today, whos specialise in Val Cenis and offer an accomodation, lift pass and equipment all in price,(Only £312 the lot), they also have about 60-70 clients at the end of January and organise some socials, (The resort is really quiet).

Cheapest option is to drive, (diesel still cheap despite the euro rate). You can also get to Val Thorens or Bonneval sur Arc (beatiful village) and really close. The resort is quiet, but really reasonable with regards to food and drink and speaking to the guy today, they are having more snow and this is forecast to continue until Friday.
Although it is 680 miles for me, door to door, this can be done in 8 hours, (Through the night) and you can squeeze a couple of days extra skiiing in. Cheapest crossing is Norfolk Line,
Look at the attached web site - www.mgsski.com. Hope that it helps.

You can fly to Paris and get an overnight train or TGV to Modane, then local bus up to Val Cenis.

You can fly to Turin and get a train to Modane or hire a car and drive. Easy journey as long as you are not competing with high season crowds.

You can fly to Lyon and get a train, but that takes as long as coming from Paris.

You can fly to Grenoble and hire a car, travel by train is a pain and takes ages.

I had a great time in Val Cenis a week ago. Stayed in the Centre Internation des Sejour (www.cis-valcenis.com) which provides full board and lift pass in the price. I'm still overweight as a result of all I ate.
