Thanks for update but that re masks is a bit ironic after Ischgl, Kitzbuhel, Obertauern et al made a big thing of the fact they were handing out a free buff with their lift passes for face/nose covering this winter. Wonder if they'll offer the FFP2 upgrade now too?

I hear ya :-) If it helps, the lift companies are not happy.

If you recon the vaccines require 2 doses, three weeks apart it is pretty unlikely the vaccine roll out will hit meaningful numbers in time to save the ski season by allowing hassle free travel and given that hospitals are getting busy all over Europe travel corridors are unlikely to be open in the way they were in the late summer.

The resorts may open to locals but it's hard to envisage things changing much for 2 or 3 months.

In the UK the category of tourist isn't on the list of vaccine priority and I doubt it will be any different elsewhere.

We've written this season off with a slim chance of jumping on a flight to somewhere high or North very late in the season.

Yes. This season is an effective write-off for skiers from the UK.

Was hearing a few of the big resorts including Ischgl and Saalbach haven't opened to locals although they now can. Saalbach saying they can't break even running lifts with the new masks requirement (see earlier posts in this thread!). Locals who bought season passes and could have slopes to themselves reported not happy. I think Ischgl some complication with the fact that Swiss resorts including Samnaun to which it is linked being open means quarantine complications if skiers got from Austria in to Switzerland and came back?

Ischgl talking about opening mid-Jan. I assume they could just stop the Samnaun lift connection.

But to open from 18th January looking super optimistic 'cos everyone has a 7-day average incidence above 100 per 100,000.

So I expect the current 10 day quarantine for visitors from outside Austria to continue.

I have resigned myself to the fact that, even if logistically possible, it would be foolhardy to travel to any ski resort this season without Covid vaccination. Is it worth risking ones health for a few slides? I say no.
