Despite no huge amounts of natural snow so far this season the pisters in Arcalis (Andorra) claim this is the best base layer they can remember having ever seen. Yesterday 10 cms of unexpected snow fell in Arcalis, unfortunately it was rather heavy snow and contained sand from the Sahara so it looked very dirty. We are hoping for another fresh 20 cms or so Thursday night into Friday.

As was it in Arcalis, an unexpected 20 cms of fresh snow over night leading to quite decent off piste.

But with that also comes some danger. I witnessed a small avalanche today triggered by two snow boarders. One deployed his airbag but was still partially under the snow as it came to a stop, while the other guy had no bag but still managed to stay on top of the snow. A good reminder to be careful even when doing inbound off piste and to wear your avalanche gear. Luckily no injuries this time we were later told by a ski patrol guy.

The ski patrol were very quick to respond, as in like 20 seconds after the snow stopped the first patroller was racing towards them, nice to know that they are so alert to keep us safe.

Overnight snow has refreshed the pistes. Not quite enough to get off piste, although we did try today! Good skiing throughout Grandvalira at the moment.

Heading to Soldeu 2nd February 2020 with Inghams. Do they or anyone else offer a ski guide service? To enable us as a group of 5 to get our bearings around the Grandvalira area.
Regards

Hi Crusher. Neilsons and Crystal do guiding, but Inghams only has a small footprint in the village. I don't know if they link up. I know the Inghams rep Jill, so will ask her next time I see her. Snow expected this week so you will have a good week I'm sure.

Thanks, we are really looking forward to our annual week playing in the white stuff and a few beers in the Barcode.

Snow started to fall today. Good skiing to be had, but cold!
