I ski somewhere in Italy most seasons including this year but have never mentioned any problems with lifts?
When in doubt?....Flat out.

My wife won't go back to Italy now because of the squat toilets, which I agree cannot be much fun for ladies in ski gear. As for us blokes, well we have this handy thing that allows us to stand up and ......... Maybe best if I left it at that I think.

Anyway, hope you have a great time wherever you end up.
Doug. I don't know where and when you have skied in Italy but I have been to several resorts over the years and never encountered the dreaded squats. As for the lift system, I am currently in the Dolomites and the lift infrastructure is as good if not better than anywhere else. Somewhere like Alpe de Suisi near Val Gardena would be perfect for the poster

Just wanted to thank you all for your contributions - it's very good to get varied opinions on various places. Nice to 'speak' to people passionate about skiing (of course, on such a website as this!). Wishing you all a happy ski season now and in the future. :)

Thank you! Let us know where you ended up skiing.I've got a friend who's looking to start skiing again after hurting her knee a few years ago.

Just to clarify, wife and I have not skied extensively in Italy, but we have done Cervinia, Claviere, Sestriere, Sauze,D,Ouix, and Sarscario. In those resorts we found many of the mountain toilets squat type. The lifts were often 2 man chairs which were old and slow and had no bubbles. There were also a number of drag lifts. The Milky Way ski area, spread over several different resorts does not even have a free ski bus linking them.
I am not trying to diss Italy or start an argument, I was simply stating a true reflection of what we encountered. It may not be like this across all of Italy, but due to what we have seen to date my wife will not go back. That is not neccesarily my view as I would happily return, but as you probably imagine that is not going to be possible.
We are now used to going to another country where the lift systems are new, fast, have heated seats and bubbles and free ski buses which turn up on time, are the norm.
Horses for courses. I was simply trying to provide some friendly advice, based on actual experience.
I am not going to get into a jousting match about which countries are best. I just love skiing and if I can help somebody with information on places I have first hand experience of, then I will. If some people dissagree with my observations then maybe they have not actually been to the areas I mention?
Skied: On snow, On water, On mud, On slush, On ice. Oh, and on a few dry slopes.
