I think the optimism shown in j2ski's snow forecasts is legendary and I have lost count of the number of times that the 14 day forecast is loaded with snow (sometimes metres of it) in the last 4-5 days and then revised to zero a few days later. This has already happened half a dozen times this season. I get the disclaimer about mountain weather being unpredictable and there being different weather models to choose from but some good advice might be to not always pick the most optimistic / far-fetched. Anyone would think j2ski had a business to run that made money out of people advertising and/or booking skiing holidays.....

The optimism is legendary - and yet you have been a member only one day and have only made this one (somewhat derogatory) post?

Apparently you don't. We started this Topic to expand on exactly that.

Whilst ignoring the caveats on every single one of our forecasts, you've chosen to insinuate that we use our long-range forecasts to mislead people... on a Topic we started explicitly to draw attention to (and illustrate) their unreliability. I'm not sure you thought that one through. Like rain on your wedding day... Spectacular. :lol:

Anyway, back on topic... the Outlook for December...

...has now settled down, for the first week at least.

There's good and bad news in the direction of the models;

- On the plus side, the heat of the warmer outcomes has all but disappeared - leaving likely temperatures running a little above average in the West (of The Alps) and at or just below average in the East. So still cold.

- The downside is that most of the precipitation has also rolled back.

Today's ensemble chart for Geneva - courtesy of Wetterzentrale.

So we are looking at cool, clear and dry for much of the next week. There is good snow on the ground above 2,000 metres and higher but variable conditions below that. Could be better, but still not bad for November.

Need more dancing from OldAndy...

Another cracking graph Admin. Malcolm Tucker would be proud of that one!
