I came across this while researching "old vs new downhill skis." I grew up in New England and skiied on the mountains there. Then I moved south and didn't ski. After 15 years, I'm visiting home and dug out my old skis.

I took them to a ski shop to sharpen and the kids there called everyone in the shop over to see these. One said, "wow, these are in great shape, so well preserved, where did you find them?" I soon realized that skis must have changed since I've been on a mountain.

So I'm wondering, if I decide to (in the future) invest in "new" skis, do I need to relearn to ski? I saw a comment about how the method of skiing is different. I was able to use my skis just fine 15 years ago, so is it worth changing over?

Much of what you know will carry over to the new skis, but you will have to unlearn some movements that are no longer necessary.
You will soon notice when you see people skiing, that it looks very different. Might be best to rent skis, unless you intend to visit the northern states more often. Take a lesson, but do request an experienced instructor who will understand the transition you are making. I'm sure you will have a lot of fun, and have a much better experience, than you would have had on your old skis.
because I'm so inclined .....
