Hi Papa

You will have a ball in Ischgl . I'm just back after a fantastic trip - see my review in another thread.

If you have not already booked your skis there is a Mietski in Galtur which can be very cheap, though like Ryanair, it gets more expensive the closer you get to your dates.

Another option is to hire in Kappl or See. We hired in Kappl and it was a lot cheaper than Ischgl. If you have a car, this is pretty easy though it is a pain if not

Hi Wanderer
cheers for that !
Heading off tomorrow--looking forward to it now--seems there was some snow within last few days and conditions are good--renting a car and driving from Munich so hopefully we make it there!!
Will check out that Mietski now
Have a car too so KAppl or See are options too
I presume the 6 day ski pass is the same price no matter where we go

cheers for the info

hi Folks
just arrived back from Ischgl
Skied till 3pm Tueday then drove back to Munich for our flight home.
Just a quick report on what i thought of Ischgl.

We flew into Munich Wednesday morning, rented a car and drove straight to Ischgl--got a bit shafted with the car as for some bizzare reason they didn't have the car we booked and we had to upgrade to a 2l passat--in fairness the diesel costs of 45 euro for the whole trip was great but we weren't too happy about having to pay extra for an upgrade and then being rented a sat nav when there was already one built into the car!!---we didn't make too much of it as we were eager to get on the road asap----it's a fairly straightforward 3 hour drive to Ischgl from Munich airport---got down and sorted out ski pass--219 euro for 6 days--we pre rented skis, boots , helmet from Miet Ski in Galtur (about 10 min drive from Ischgl) for about 160 euro per person.

Got out on the slopes the next day---lovely conditions with next to no waits for ski lifts--clear blue skies and no wind the whole week--we generally got skiing about midday, skiied until 530, hit the apres ski for a few hours , home for a shower and food , then back out for the night.
Lots of reds in Ischgl, with few blues as far as i saw. Conditions especially higher up were brilliant all week--last two days the lower slopes were getting quite slushy towards the end of the day--but were probably fine the start of the days--it was almost 20 degrees some afternoons!----the home tun (slope 1) turns into a bit of a nightmare at the end-we tended to stop on a a slope till the crowds had gone down (and skull a few jaegermiesters...) and then go down as one of the last people on the slopes---lots of slush and moguls but at least very few people by that stage. In total we skiied 125 miles over the six days.

The apres ski was good--although very very few Irish or English--we met less that ten the whole week, so the apres ski was no where near as lively as say Soll when i was there 5 years ago--having said that the bars are hopping---lots of them clear out at 8pm and people head home--many will return to the bars later that night--a lot of the bars look empty from the outside but are packed when you go in. Few bars we visited and found good were Trofana, Kunstall, Hotel elisabeth, "nicky stadyl"---

All in all a great trip--skiing was as good as i have experienced before (been to Soll and ANdorra before)
and Apres Ski was good (although i'd rank it behind Soll due to language/culture barrier)

yea we struggled to get up early!
so generally on the slopes before 12
and got as high as we could before lifts closed, then made our way down
We tended to be some of the last on the slopes by the end and were often met by the end of day ski patrol

Looks like papa has a different approach to us!

Usually tucked up in bed by 11pm and up each morning by 7.30am.

If we're not at the lift station by 9am I'm Mr Grumpy and I don't like leaving the slopes until at least 4pm. Knackered by the end of a skiing week......think I'm getting old.
slippy slidey snow......me likey!

yea our pattern was up by 11am, on slopes by 12--ski till 530pm (30 min break for grub)
--apres ski till 9 or so --back to flat for shower, grub , hour power nap--out again for 11 -- stay out till 2,3,4,5 am.....
Need a holiday after it though, it takes it's toll!
