According the Merinet the accident happened close to the Loze piste. The Loze lift is one of the links to Courchevel.

We skied the Tetras black, and bits between the pistes last year. Sends a shiver down the spine.

How rocky is that area?
Skied: Arinsal, La Plagne, Alpe D'huez, Flaine, Les Arcs, Morzine, Les Gets, Avoriaz, Sauze, Courchevel, Val Thorens

I had a look at some video footage I shot there in late Jan last year and there are a few rocks showing through, but nothing unusual. The snow depth was a lot better then of course.

According to the Bild http://www.bild.de/sport/motorsport/michael-schumacher/das-ist-der-ungluecksort-34025900.bild.html the site of the accident was between the Chamois and Biche pistes

As you can see there's no shortage of rocks.

The outlook is not good; especially when you take into account that he suffered multiple concussions during his motor racing career, the last one occurred in 2009.

"Acute subdural haematoma carries a high risk of death. Age is an important factor that affects a person's outlook. For example, people who are:

under 40 years old have a 20% risk of dying
40 to 80 years old have a 65% risk of dying
80 years old or over have an 88% risk of dying

People who survive an acute subdural haematoma usually take a long time to recover from the effects of the haematoma. The recovery time will depend on the severity of the haematoma. There can also sometimes be permanent physical and mental disabilities."

The hospital stated yesterday that he wouldn't have made it to the hospital had he not been wearing a lid, and it's being reported that the helmet was "split in two". :(

Press conference in five minutes. Fingers crossed for some good news.

Not sure why Meribel were initially reporting the wrong location for the accident. Never the less non of that side could be considered extreme, other than the un-pisted black run higher up under the Saulire lift (which I assume won't have opened yet this season.

Seems to be more the speed of impact and possibly the limited snow cover off piste that was the cause more than the gradient/type of terrain.

Good news from press conference is "An improvement" although "not out of danger"

Yes I heard that, I would assume he hit something which catapulted him forward to have impacted at that speed. So easily done.
