Hi Andy,
Yep looks like the snow is moving in after the fantastic snow in November new snow will be a great improvement, sport hotel, you've picked one of the best in Ellmau!! Well location, Ellmau is not a massive town so don't be worries when I say your on the edge of town, your a 5min if that walk into town and to get skiing on the Ellmau/going ski area 5-10min with boots and kids, how old are kids and do you all ski well?? If so you want to be looking at getting to the other side of town for the mountain train the hartkaiserbahn, as this will get you up to where the runs are linked to all the other resorts, you can ski across from where you are but you will be a good few lifts, ski busses run through town to the hartkaiserbahn, couple of things no matter how old your kids are to do in Ellmau, night tobogganing you'll love it and also there is the swimming pool across from town, not a walk it's a little too far so taxi job, but that's well worth it, called the kaiserbad, you can get loads more info on the skiwelt website, hope this helps a little, if you have any more question I'll be happy to help
Best regards and merry christmas
Nick

I been skiing for 35 years now and only missed a handful of years, problem is my fitness is not what it was and therefore my skiing has gone back a little, my daughter is 9 now and this will be her fourth trip, she is more lucky than I was at her age. It's great to see her doing well and I'm sure it won't be long before she is waiting for me and telling me to hurry up.

Sounds you know the resort well, have you b een working out there?

Thanks for all the information it very useful

All the best

Andy

You haven't said what level the family is. You might want to bear in mind that the valley runs in the Skiwelt can be pretty demanding with steep pitches, icy bits and if its anyway warm, deep slush (you can experience all of these on a single run down). They can be a bit of a nightmare late in the afternoon when traffic is heavy :x. Unless you all are pretty accomplished skiers, it can be simpler and safer to take the gondola down .

Just make sure you have skied your legs off first

This is true regards the conditions, it can get quiet heavy towards the end of the day with the popular link runs, but there is always enough stops on the way down to take a rest at and have a giggle at others, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
No I've not worked there but we have stayed at Ellmau around 8-10 ski trips just something about the place that keeps us going back, the most enjoyable is the lack of queuing for lifts, always a bonus.
We'll enjoy your trip, I'll test the resort out for you again as I'm off the week before you lol.
Best regards

I will be in Going, Ellmau, Scheffau, Söll for both those weeks, on odd days. (I will be based in Niederau for a few weeks)

Have a plan to meet with Piste Panther, one day.

It is true that some of the village runs can be a bit tricky, especially when the base firms up, late in the day. Gondo;a down is good advice when there are any doubts about capability and safety.

To make up for this, be on the first hartkaiserbahn, get the best snow, finish early, and as Andy suggests, go for a swim.

I have two or three paintings done, when I stayed in Ellmau, it's a good wee village.
