So who are the good TO's then Andy?

The last TO holiday for me was in 1984 to Ibiza as a teenager! Summer and winter since then we've gone down the DIY route.

We've stayed in Val Thorens, Meribel, and Courchevel 1550, and I much prefer Courchevel 1550.

If you know where you're going you can get about the 3 valleys pretty fast, because the lifts are so efficient.

When I wasn't very good - just able to ski down an easy red - our instructor took us out for the day. We started in Val Thorens and managed to ski across to Courchevel and Meribel and back well before the end of the day's lesson. Plus, the instructor stopped in a lovely restaurant for at least an hour at lunchtime, and took us up the top of Mont Vallon just because the red run down was one of his favourite runs in the 3 valleys!

Monsieur Barney,

As all the others have stated go to Méribel. From there you can get to other ski resorts.
If you do go there look up Fréderic ( Fred ) Henneton, the ski school Director. Very best teacher and man! Speaks an excellent english since he taught skiing for several years in USA.
If you do "hire" skis do not go to first ski shop ,,but look around as compare. Prices vary a great deal.

Get a guide since you will get lost, not find the very best slopes and he / she will provide best info on village.

We've used Skiworld for many years, they've always been good, but in recent years they've become excellent.

As has been posted on this thread there is not a lot of ski-in-out in Meribel but it's a much prettier location than elsewhere in the 3V and the night life is good, Meribel Motarett has a lot more slope side accom and probably more likely to have options for just the weekend. Try typing independent chalets into google to avoid tour op's but again you may struggle on just a weekend especially if you want to straddle fri sat and sun maybe just half a week would get more results like sun mon tues - thurs fri sat? Or hang the expense and come for a week you deserve it! Have a look at our website : ) hope you find something!

Thanks for the info Stu & Lou - I'll have a look at your website. By the way, we're looking to stay for a week. I think you may have got this topic mixed with another.

Still not got our 2nd ski hol sorted out but my better half has reminded me that it's our 20th wedding anniversary next April. I think it's only right that we celebrate this event in a posh hotel or chalet in a top ski resort. I believe my logic is 100% sound.

I will report further in due course 8)
