p.s. I quite like some runs in Niederau when they have fresh powder.......but frankly I love ANY runs when they have fresh powder so it's hardly a recommendation as such. But under the main gondola is fun, and straight through the woods and down the forest roads when there is serious snow.

Firstly Niederau is dull, unless your learning or want to trundle round for the week.
Now call the Police !
Munich - I've had one day down at Auffach 5 years back. The lift queue wasn't too bad
but i spent most of the time blasting the 5 or 6 red runs off the top and assume it was the 9.45 - 10.30 slot when it was rammed at the bottom. I think i'll take your advice and have a drive over to Westendorf and do skiwelt most days with a trip to Kitzbuhel one day.
Are you and your boys in Niederau over the new year week ?

If there is snow......I will be in Niederau as my base basically......so for sure there over New Year. Probably from around the 20th December to 10th January (but I do the 24th in Munich).

Got some buddies will be around as well - one guy with 2 boys aged 13 and 11 who also has a SkiWelt season pass etc. Plus my sons have mates....there will be people!!! Stay in contact.

p.s. Bear in mind that Auffach is now directly linked to ALPBACH.......so it's a whole new and better game since last season. They spend 15 Million on the lift so be rude not to use it!!!

Trying to find a place that will suit Mrs Fez, who has only been twice and if im honest is not much more confident than a beginner. So loads of easy lazy blues which are easy to get to. Others in the group have been 3/4 times and might want something to challenge them a bit. Also after a bit of atmosphere and apres. Was considering Niederau but get the impression I might cut my wrists as I am a confident skier even if lacking technique. Was looking at Soll as I have been there with advanced group a few times but felt the runs directly above Soll may be abit to challenging for Mrs F. Whats apres like in Westendorf?

Westendorf rocks. Skiing is excellent and apre-ski is as scarey or as calm as you want. Actually I like a beer but a couple of the places end up like Sodom and Gomorrah with mental dutch people. But they have typical pubs and bars. Trust me........can't go wrong in Westendorf.

Hi Paul, New Year in Austria is terrific. In Niederau you will get the horizon-round fireworks display, but be sure to go up to Oberau on New Years night, where there is a great ski show and fireworks.

Don't listen to Munich Johnny, everybody knows he has never had lunch on the mountain, because he doesn't wake up until mid-afternoon! :D

I have also had great Austrian New Years in the Ski Welt, and elsewhere, but sadly, also a Niederau one where my mate was killed going over the edge of the gorge on Run 19. That was 28th December, so not a good New Year.

Limitations are not contained to the mountains, they are constrained only by your vision. After 44 years of skiing in Niederau, I am still discovering new runs, trying to re-discover lost runs, and inventing some, where I think there should be a run!
