You can expand the menu to see details. Nendaz is not small, a few villages there, so depending on where you are going it's possible that there may be no bus at certain times. There is a bus from Sion to Haute-Nendaz at 13.40 for which you need 11.27 train.

Looks like something went wrong with your search (assuming you are travelling on a Saturday)

If your flight is on time and you only have hand luggage you might just be able to get the 9:47.

First class carriages have a yellow stripe on the door.

If you really want to get some skiing in, you could get a taxi from Sion to Nendez for 80 Francs http://www.taxifollonier.ch/tarif-sion-en.htm.

I would discount 9:47 train, you may not have enough time to get train ticket. Ticket selling machines are quite easy to operate but you will be amazed at how many people struggle to work it out - particularly if you are queuing up after them and pressed for time. Sometimes it seems that there are people who don't even know where they want to go, so they just stand there aimlessly pressing buttons. And you must have a ticket now. Until December 11 tickets could be bought on trains but not any longer.

We have the same problem with our 10:15 landing and 10:47 train to Riddes (between Martigny and Sion). I doubt we'll make the connection, so I'm thinking of ordering the tickets from the London Swiss Travel Centre www.stc.co.uk if I can, or I know that www.sbb.ch will post them to me. Just in case we land early (yeah - I know, unlikely, but ..).

Otherwise, we're planning to disembark en route in Lausanne, drop off our luggage (see http://www.sbb.ch/en/station-services/am-bahnhof/railway-stations.html for station amenities like Left Luggage) and go to the attractive old part of the town and have lunch and a walk. Or perhaps Montreux, if they have Left Luggage, as it's smaller and easier to get 'round. Sion also has an old quarter, not far from the station, so if you prefer to be there you could have lunch (which should be cheaper than up a mountain) and a wander.

If you want to press on, but don't want to pay out for your own taxi, you could always email the Nendaz Tourist Office to see if you could make up the numbers on someone else's mini-van transfer.

I've given up trying to ski the same day as I travel, but if you have all your stuff with you, then I can see it might be worthwhile.

I've just got an email from SBB about special rail fare offers in the Valais, one of which is for Nendaz:

I really enjoy travelling to the Swiss resorts by train - all part of the pre-holiday planning excitement and the holiday fun when I get there. The SBB and its many associated local railway companies are extremely reliable and efficient. And by using early and late flights, skiing on arrival and departure days has been the norm, rather than the exception, However, please remember that in English it's a railway station and not a train station (unless you are an American, of course!) :)

Sorry SwingBeep. I should have made it clear. I'm travelling on a Sunday and the bus connection from the 11:27 train doesn't appear to run on a Sunday.

Having looked at prices, it would appear that a Swiss Transfer ticket would only cost £9.20 more than a normal round trip ticket. If I ordered this in advance at least it would save me from having to negotiate the ticket machine (as I have an awful feeling I would be one of those people standing aimlessly pressing buttons ;)) and if by some miracle my flight is early and my luggage is first off (hand luggage only is not an option) I might be able to dash straight through to the RAILWAY station and jump straight on the 9:47 train.

Thank you for sending the link for the special offer Msej449 but I think it's only valid for January and I'm not travelling until Feb 26th. Thanks anyway.

Well done, Trevor! I've found the queues at both Zurich and Geneva airport railway stations to be fairly short - and the staff speak brilliant English, of course. The machines, too, are easy to negotiate - although one did eat my odd-shaped MINT credit card once!
