NO I cant provide any constructive advice on this matter. However there is one thing that I do know for sure.

You have booked your holiday and you will no doubt make the most of the 3 days that you are there. No matter how much worrying you do it will not change the conditions.

To answer your question about wind, 25-30kph is no way near a strong wind 25-30 MPH is. I cant see them closing lifts for the former?

Sorry if I upset you ;) <<<<< that is a friendly wink

thank you i appreciate that. yes i may be worrying a tad too much but i have spent quite alot of money and also bought all new gear including.boots and skis which probably adds to things. i also dont know a great deal about chamonix other than what i have read and you never know what to believe. as i said fingers crossed there will be skiing of some sort available this coming weekend. the snow has arrived lets just hope the wimds move aside.

We are expecting a lot of severe weather tomorrow http://www.meteoalarm.eu/index.php?lang=en_UK&AT=0&day=1 the forecast here is for hurricane force winds in the mountains and up to a metre of snow. When the storm has passed the pisteurs will do their best to open the ski areas as quickly as possible. It might be best to head for Les Houches rather than the Grand Montets.

wow that really is severe lets hope everyome stays safe during that time. and it passes quickly. i dont have a problem heading for les houches ( if it opens ? ) i guess we will just have to wait and see and hope the storm isnt as severe as they say . i cant see the pisters heading out if it is as bad as you say. seems there could be another little twist in this story of the opening season yet..... be safe

Well would you believe it. from nearly no snow to 2meters in 2 days as reported first hand from the resort. black flags showing on nearly all higher runs and very few runs open anywhere but les houches ( seems thats my destination tomorrow then ) been told the piste team are working there hardest to secure the area and allow people to ski but with so much snow having fallen the risks are just too high. fingers crossed a cold night with little snow will help compact things slightly for the coming days, Going to be an interesting trip up to the valley i feel. lots of road warnings and closures for avalanche control. if anything that will be an experience always had really bad luck with snow and arrive way after its fell. hopefully first time on powder this weekend and what a place to learn ;-) could be a baptist of fire by the sounds of it and reckon were going to seek out some instruction.
