And a choice between an Austrian glacier or France seems a little bit unusual. Care to elaborate? We might just be able to help.
BTW Hintertux can be a very very bleak place, and is also techincally difficult, it may not be at all right for you????
Thanks Ally. Am chuffed. There's a lot to be said for going as often as possible. The 11 days over New Year really helped I think.

You could be right OldAndy. There's definitely a hint of confusion about them and they appear to be plotting something. Funny enough I didn't see them again so they must have got their bearings back

Hintertux is a glacier, I take it you know that?EmmaEvs wrote: Plus MrEvs is coming round to the idea of Hintertux instead of France.

Ok, my logic may be flawed but here it goes...
Yup I know that it's a glacier. As there's skiing all year round I figure that no matter how little snow we get between now and then we'll still be able to ski. It's a safe option in that sense.
Bleak - I hadn't thought about that and imagine it can be, especially in the depths of winter, although with us looking at April I'm pretty sure that the weather should be milder and hopefully sunnier. Obviously that's a guess and I don't have a crystal ball.
Technical level - I've taken a look at the piste map and it seems to be comprised mainly of reds, with a couple of blues and one (?) black. In what way are they technically difficult? Obviously all I can see from the piste map is the colour grading.

Wheres Mr E thinking of going come April, a la France? I'd suggest only Val d'Isere/Tignes would be on the agenda for such late season trips?
Tino is your man to ask about the Tux, he loves the place. But a mate of mine who goes to M much more often than me says its really bleak at times, with nowhere to hide. I am still yet to find out for myself.
You might be better off finding somewhere more forgiving for your level of ability however (going by what you said on some recent posts)

MrEvs hasn't actually mentioned a specific place, although a while back he kept talking about Val Thorens. We've had a chat and seeing as it's our third, which was meant to be a last minute cheapy to N to make the most of our season pass, turning it into an expensive one to France seems bum backwards. If we're going to France I'd rather it be planned at the beginning of the season so we can budget around that for other trips.
Tino replied to another thread I posted before the last hol about glaciers. The jist was that he gave it two thumbs and said to go  We did get caught in Kitzbuhel during a whiteout once which wasn't pleasant, but I think we'd be unlucky to get that experience in April.
In terms of my ability, it's difficult to guage on tinternet I think. Confidence has been my biggest enemy although I seem to have banished those demons this year. I skied the long black in N last week and found it fine although the snow was nice and grippy. I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much with hard pack. I'm working on skiing a straighter line, although I am still cautious. I'm wondering whether there's something unusual about the reds in Tux? Otherwise I'm happy to give them a crack. From the vids I've looked at the pistes seem to be quite wide which usually makes them seem a lot easier than those in the tree line. Am I in for a nasty surprise?

Emn, for sure going more regularly is the key if you can. You can see yourself stepping up a level each time you go.
