I am considering going to Niederau 1st week in February. I was thinking about going to the Hotel Austria but after looking on Tripadvisor I am still undecided. The reviews are about 50/50, as are with most other hotels.
There always seems to be good reviews about the resort and it seems to be quite popular in this forum, but does anyone have any hotel reccomendations?
Also has anyone skied there lately? and what are the weather conditions?
Thanks in advance.
Mick.

Hi mick
There is a brief discussion on the following thread about a couple of the hotels in niederau http://www.j2ski.com/ski-chat-forum/posts/list/7675.page#66012
The Hotel Austria is directly opposite the gondola and the nursery slopes, so can't beat the location. However we haven't stayed there, so can't comment on the quality of accommodation. We stayed in the Harfenwirt (see my comments about that on the above thread).
Niederau is excellent for learning to ski, and has many fans on this forum. It is very popular with British people - I leave it up to you to decide if that's good or bad )

Hi Allie
I have read through that discussion and I am still undecided. i think I will just have to pick one and see for myself.

I have not considered going self catering because usually when we get back after a days skiing we are too tired or too lazy to start cooking. We did go bed and breakfast to Mayrhofen one year and ate out every night but found that expensive for one week.

Hi Mick,
This is my first post so hope this works!
Hotel Austria is good for food, clean and great position. Looks a little old fashioned but we still had a good week. Wouldn't go with a big party as the bar area is very small and don't think the barman could of coped with an oder for more than 2. On the other hand, they were polite and we were out for most of the time. Hope this helps
Lifes too short, have no regrets just stick your foot out or your finger up to the queue jumpers.

If you are an absolute beginner, the Austria, Simmelwirt or Alpenland are all close to the ski school. The Sonnschein is a good quality and good value hotel, but a bit further to walk to the Gondola.

If you can use a T-bar, the Harfenwirt is good, and together with the Bichlwirt, you are entering some of the local culture. The Tenladen T-bar is close, and this gives access to the main lift.

I was skiing with people today who are staying at the Austria, and they reported good food. Although I am friendly with the owners, my personal experience there was not particularly good. That would not prevent me from staying there again should the occasion arise, although, for the last nine seasons, I have stayed in an apartment 200m up from the Harfenwirt.

Arrived by train yesterday from St Anton, was on the Gondola before noon, season pass in pocket. Conditions much better than St Anton, on a par with Lech. A great strength of Niederau is the quality of the pisting. So at the moment, piste conditions are great from 9.00am, when I start, until about 2.30 pm ish, when the piste starts to hard pack. However, I still managed to keep the turns going until the lift closed. :P

Skiing was much curtailed today, catching up with old friends, trying not to have a drink on each occasion. Only managed 17 runs, should be a minimum of 20 to justify eating!. Mel, my prime ski buddy, arrived today. He doesn't have great health, but maxes out in spirit.

Some new snow tonight. I will be back for the first 2 weeks in March, so just keep the faith. Niederau has cold North facing slopes, and hence retains good snow quality.

For the best snow, ski right beside the trees, drink only Zipfer, stay away from loose women.
