It would not be safe to put piste machines up the mountain during skiing time, at least on a regular basis. There may be a specific or technical needs to do so, on the odd occasion.

I agree there, when we were in Niederau they were preparing the Black run for the International ski race while we were coming down, its amazing how quickly those machines move, it was quite scary being on the piste at the same time as them  (although I know we wouldnt have been taken on there if it wasnt safe for us to be there).

As for the different views, I think the opinions of Niederau being to easy/limited (as Tony_H says), or to difficult for intermediates (as karen72 says) just highlights that everyones needs are different and there is a limit to how much you can recommend a resort without fully knowing someones level. :?

Niederau is often championed as an excellent resort for beginners/early intermediates, me being one of the people doing the championing....I learnt there myself last year (and again this year) and the instruction is amazing. However I think that is only the case if the beginners/early intermediates are either extremely confident, or in ski school (Im one of the ones who needs ski school!!!), so it is difficult to advise whether a resort will suit someone or not, without knowing their ability/confidence!!!

I feel bad that you didnt have a great time karen72, as I was one of the people who highly recommended Niederau, but I think maybe now that you know what it is you want from your ski holiday, you will be better placed for finding a resort that suits you all!!!

At the end of the day though all that doesnt matter because to me it doesnt really matter where I'm skiing.....as long as there's snow to play on I'm happy!!!

Hi Karen

I don't think it's right to discourage people as you have above. From what I've read I think your complaints are not niederau specific, they're feb half term specific and complaints that you'd have had in hundreds of resorts in the alps at that time of year. There are a couple of other people on here that went at half term and loved it.

On another note, the piste bashers were busy every night when I was there, I loved watching them from the Auhof. Never complain about too much snow :D :D :D

[for the record, I had a fab time in n and loved it. I wouldn't consider myself a niederau-ite though so don't think I'm being unreasonably over protective, just trying to counter the balance ]

I also spent a week in Niederau before half term. Loved the Auhof, loved the runs. My children skiied with us for a bit of the time as they were in ski school but managed all the runs no problem at all(the youngest is 7) - the reds are great. Ran into one of those piste bashers on red 19 and got a fright (and a laugh) but it all added up to a great week. We are looking to go back at easter and stay at Auhof but ski Auffach as the lifts at N are closed.
mum works too hard to pay for the ski trips!

Wingers ? Both provided concise and thorough reports on the place giving their personal opinion, to lable them wingers for doing this is out of order in my opinion.

People shouldn't be criticised writing reviews, they should be applauded.

I got back on Saturday, had a great time, liked the place, but probably wont go back in the near future. I wont list my reasons in fear of awaking the Niederau tourist board :)

when Karen first came back from N she wrote a very concise and honest report of her experience. No one criticised her for that.

A week or so later, more criticism appeared (too much snow) and the suggestion that people don't visit there on the busiest week of the year for businesses. Personally I think that's the point when people are allowed to respond.

NikC sorry didn't ever manage to meet up for that birthday beer, ChrissyG, steady on you'll be accused of stirring ) caron-a, I understand that sometimes it isn't very helpful when someone is being negative about business at holiday times when the same will occur in most resorts.

Personally I was in N from 21st to 28th Feb as a party of 11, myself, an intermediate, and then 9 beginners and an infant. All I can say is that we had a thoroughly enjoyable week and yes I appreciate that there isn't a huge number of runs (but of course it is possible to jump on the ski bus to go 15 mins down the road) but for our group N provided everything we needed.

Great ski school (red), 6 different instructors used by our entire group due to being spilt into various classes and kids classes, some private tuition etc, and each one was excellent. Again it has been commneted on before that there are too many drag/T bars which I appreciate but this didn't spoil any of the fun for the ability of skiers within our group. All in all a great holiday, great people in resort and met some great people in ski school and out and about and I wouldn't swap a thing.

Would I go back? Absolutely, most definitely for the ski school and then maybe when the immediate family are at a more advanced level we would look to go further afield - that's not to say we wouldn't consider anywhere else as am sure there are numerous great schools around, I guess all in all it will always come down to cost (at least for us) but this time around N fitted the bill perfectly.

Oh and re: conditions yes plenty of fresh snow and powdery in places but as was pointed out to us if we could ski in those condiitons then come a properly pisted piste (as it was last Wednesday) then skiing becomes (relatively) easy!

And as I say last Wednesday was fanstastic conditions coming down the reds, most people commenting wihtin our group that it was the best day's skiing they'd ever had, and I wouldn't argue with that!
