I finally bought a helmet this year. Mainly because I insist that the children wear them so really I should have one on. As someone else mentioned my biggest worry is being wiped out by someone else. In the places I ski in Austria/Germany you are the odd one out if you don't have a helmet. The turning point here was in 2009 when a politician collided with and killed a woman. In that year Alpina could not produce enough helmets to satisfy demand.

it's really a matter of personal choice but the risks should be properly recognised. yesterday I saw this group of Swiss skiers in their 40s and none of them apart from one woman had a helmet. they had no headwear at all and they were dropping down a steep, narrow and quite rocky chute where you really don't want to make any mistake. Yet my friend was taken out by a boarder. she didn't think much of a fall untill she saw a slight dent on her helmet, so it can really make a difference.
