You just couldn't resist it, everyone else let it go when the thought popped in there. )

Well done :)

Matt, we are going with Inghams staying @ a hotel called La Sapiniere, never been to Chamonix before so have no idea of locations

There's been a bit more action since my last post. Yesterday Tom Wilson-North skinned up the Pierre à Ric to check things out http://www.chamonixsnowreport.com/view/classic Since then a fair bit more snow has fallen, the road over the col des Montets is closed, there's now 50cm in Argentière village and a metre at Lognan. The Aiguilles Rouges weather station recorded 45cm at 10pm last night. Things are looking a lot better now, but it is still very windy high up and it's still too warm. Hopefully it will get colder at the weekend.

still to warm in what way ? is there a chance of it melting ? just hoping it keeps on coming. as i said before not just from a selfish point of view but for the greater good.

if the weather continues to hold and.more snow falls is there a chance other areas in the chamonix valley will open ??? seems all reports lead to grand montets but surely theres other areas receiving the same snow. ????

Heavy snow, rapid snowfall onto a warm ground creates dangerous conditions. This happened yesterday in Saas-Fee. Just imagine being buried for 45 minutes. Resort management will do their best to make the mountain safe, if conditions are unstable, the unexpected can happen.

Being on a piste is not an absolute warranty of safety.

Doesnt sound great. whats the temp been like in the last 2 days ??????

Some sites are reporting 10degrees plus which surely will have massive repercussions ? chamonet is now showing the full opening for the 17th dec ( the day we arrive ) too for which until recently hasnt even been mentioned. just the partial opening of the grand montets. one slight concern there is no real snow forecast on majority of sites in the next week and some saying the temps could rise temporarily . do they know something we dont ?

and finally on none of the web cams can i see any signs of preperations taking place such as piste bashers etc. theres been the odd glimpse of one passing and a few tracks but unlike other resorts ( val thorens ) there no sign of any pistes as yet ??? any ideas people
