Top Tip...

If your other half has some sort of objection to getting a helmet, get them a helmet cam for Christmas.

If I was doing 70% of my skiing off piste I would wear one to, but I don't, so I'm not......

If you smack your head, it doesn't matter if it's on or off piste.........which has just very sadly been proven

It is individual choice, my choice is not to wear one, as of yet no one has mentioned the rock hard pistes of the east coast,

Interesting how both the threads about these tragic accidents end up with people discussing the merits of wearing a helmet. I have to say that hearing about these accidents does not make me feel any different whatsoever about wearing one, although that does not make me insensitive. Both are terrible tragedies.
However, whilst we still have a choice, I choose not to wear one. I am sure in time to come, it will become obligatory.

I totally agree. I am caving to pressure however.

Checked with my friend who informed me re helmet in hand luggage - apparently it's part of the regulations in France that also prohibit you from carrying your ski boots. I'm presuming anti-terrorism measures?

More likely, the French authorities incorrectly interpreting the contents of the "secret list" of banned items issued by the EU. pdf here...

I have carried a ski helmet in a backpack through LGW and GVA several times without any problems.

Recent court action by an Austrian tennis player may improve matters...eventually

Several years ago my Son went to the Channel Isles with a team of tennis players they were not allowed their rackets in the hold they had to go as hand luggage as the airline said their insurance would not cover for damage in the hold. When he goes to Spain coaching they always go in the hold and twice have not turned up with him on his return to GB. He claimed loss of earnings when they did'nt turn up for a week.
