My problem is that they have spoiled me for anywhere else ....I look at "stuff" in normal shops and say "my g-d thats expensive I am not paying that" and go look in TK

Unfortunately thats exactly how I see things too.

However, when you see someone in something the same as you got from TK and they tell you they paid rrp for it, it kinds of makes you feel quite good. A bit like the old ad with the blokes on the plane, and matey says "How much did you pay for your holiday?" and the other bloke tells him it was about 25p, and he jumps out the window in horror.

I agree completely.
Once you have decided on the product you want you would be daft not to pay the cheapest price and to spend some time searching for it(services are different though cos you dont know if it will be the same service till after you have got it!)

Ruskins quote imo doesnt refer to the same product at different prices but to inferior versus superior products and why the superior, more expensive product might be better value :)

Don't forget customer service, most people will consider paying a small amount extra for any article if it comes with a good after sales service. Mostly shops here are expensive but the after sales service is pretty good.

I think Gloves are one of the most important items.
Espesially if like me you suffer with cold fingers.

When i need them i used to wait untill the end of the season as its usually the expensive ones that are left.
Luckily now i can get them dirt cheap through the deals we get with Basi.

Reusch are great but my personal favs are scott.
Leather palms, strong constuction and one of those really usefull screen wipes for the goggles.

I also carry spring gloves from tchibo (bloody excellent and a fiver) and a pair of Phonix Mitts for when its really cold and no one is looking. lol
Its always good to have a spare pair coz someone in your group is always missing or lossing them. same for sunglasses.

I done that on a Mark Warner Holiday booked it the night before and got it for about 30% of what everyone else had paid. They were really pissed off. Poor sods.

It's a sad fact that even if paying full price from a big ski gear retailer in the UK, IME there is big hassle if anything turns out faulty. I did buy some gloves some years ago from one of the big ski shop chains. The seams on the palms parted after 6 days. My OH laughed at me...then his went the day after  (same glove/model).

The retailer was adamant that the gloves had been damaged by carrying skis and ski gloves were not designed for this, (so sod off IOW) All this analysis without seeing them BTW. It took quite a bit of hassle, phone calls to their Head Office etc, before I got a result and a refund.

For a retailer to be emphatic that ski gloves can't be used for carrying skis or the seams will part, is utter nonsense IMHO. I have not purchased gloves from this company since. Full price branded goods, poor durability and shoddy aftercare.

Good job that Hestra gloves seem capable of coping with all aspects of skiing :D
