As for the bloke at the top, he recruited them, so he needs to pay them for the hours they've done. Then he needs to give them notice, or money in lieu, in line with the law where their contracts were signed.

My guess, having had some experience with this type of businessman is that he couldn't make payroll, so was looking for an excuse.
because I'm so inclined .....

I am glad they have done this ..seasonaires are generally really hard working and accept long hours and low pay in order to ski!
A friend of snowb4ndits worked for these people and was sacked after christmas and new year (the busy period!!) and the fact that these people were also sacked with no pay and no way home after another busy period (half term) also speaks volumes.. they are taking the p*ss bigtime and hoping young inexperienced workers away in another country will simply go away and keep quiet
well... NOT THIS TIME!!!
its all going rapidly downhill!

I am supporting these guys all the way, as are many ex employees of Skithe3v and guests who had the pleasure of this team of 7.

Bandit, I couldn't agree more.

Wickers, in all your years of management experience did you ever have to sack an entire staff?

Good news. It looks like the Menuires 7 have won their campaign. They received half their pay now, half at the end of the month (with fines to the company if not paid). They get to stay in the chalet for the weekend. Better yet the company must start complying with local employment laws, which will give future staff greater protection.

Kudos to the local Mayor and police for doing the right thing. I'm sure a lot of people will have a favourable impression of Les Menuires because of their fair treatment of the workers.

It will be interesting to see if that company is still around next season

There's a lot of detail in this write-up from SkiPad...

Loving the power of Photoshop in getting the Mayor mobilised :-

The local mayor began to take a keen interest in the developments when a Facebook supporter, Jim Dunscombe, mocked up a photograph of Chalet Georgina with lots of tents in the foreground and posted it on the group's page. The Les Menuires mayor's office, believing that there were hoards of supporters all camped outside the chalet, sent the local police down to remove the tents and French media wanted to use the image in newspapers.
