My fitness program has completely gone to pieces. First I had a cold, and then something happened to my back. Hopefully I will be feeling better tomorrow and able to go out running again.
Well done everyone who's still exercising. Here's to us all getting slim and super fit and having a marvellous ski-ing holiday (cup of tea in hand) :D :D

Getting fit for skiing

Yes I agree...especially Rose!
Tony, some of us have to be serious about it. There's no way I'm paying all that money to get out there and ski, only to find that my legs go to jelly on the first day, and I'm knackered :(.
What I have discovered, is that as I improve in my ski-ing I also need to be fitter. Just have a look at some of those videos of experts ski-ing moguls - jumping and twisting etc. They must be super fit.
Also, I reckon one is less likely to get injured if one is fit. Plus, I have to be slim enough to get my ski trousers on :D.
Snowbandit, I think Rose should be excused from exercises for a while :D, while she recovers from her nasty fall in the garden.

I thought you already did that Ally!

Well I am getting ready for skiing. Had a half day to-day was meant to go to the German Xmas market in town but my back aches so stayed at home. Hubby bought bratwurst sausages, saurkraut,(sp) mulled wine and roasted chestnuts. We have just sat around the fire, ski hats on eating said supper and a couple of mulled wines. So I am well in training now.
I'm a laydee

I think having a marvellous skiing holiday will do. I think some people might be taking this getting fit for skiing just a little too seriously.AllyG wrote:Here's to us all getting slim and super fit and having a marvellous ski-ing holiday (cup of tea in hand) :D :D

There is a massvie difference between seeing pro's skiing on moguls and down gulleys and being fit "enough" to do a weeks recreational skiing.
All you need to worry about is your core strength and leg muscles. For me getting a sweat for 20 minutes every day is good enough, by whatever means possible ) . That might be a brisk walk, a short run, chasing around London with a briefcase up and down the escalators, or just some simple exercises at home. What I do ensure is that for at least 6 weeks leading up to skiing I work on strengthening my quads and core muscles a little by doing some stretches, crunches, and leg lifts. I dont feel the need to do much more than that TBH. If I was 24 stone, I might perhaps see it somewhat differently.

Tony,
How do you know I'm not planning on ski-ing like a 'pro' over moguls and down the slalom? :D
